The 490/495hp is achieved with the Z51 option it appears, It does not specify a base hp output will be so yes I did not read that correct.

One of GM's biggest advantages to their pricing is they in-house most of the big and expensive to produce components.

Same here this is straight up outrageous.

It's going to have sooooooooooooooooooooooo many teething issues with the first year cars.

Curious why you would think this? Some teething issues are to be expected, but more than what's typical?

A mid engine car is not some ultra advanced technology. One of the neat capabilities of this car is it's new electrical architecture. Updates can now be done over the air wirelessly. No more need to take the car in.

This concerns people because of privacy issues, but from an OEM standpoint, it's fantastic. They can gather and process virtually unlimited data, make the necessary changes, and push the updates out to the entire fleet. Just image the amount of information they can gather after just the first year. Literally 10's of millions of miles of real-world data. Exponentially more than they could ever get through internal testing.

I'd almost be willing to bet they just take a bath on the first few years of the mid engined cars. Seriously, THIS is the platform going forward, you had to make the investment at some point, and planning to pay it off in the first few years is ambitious at best. I'm betting they're in for the long haul, so these things are priced to sell.

Also, everyone comparing this to the GT 500 is just out of their mind. I'm sorry, I'm a Ford fanboy, but you absolutely cannot compare the inadequacies of a Macpherson strut to not only a double wishbone, but a Mid Engine setup at that. Sure, the GT500 has ~250 extra horsepower so doing hero laps on certain tracks it will come out ahead, but by and large I would not be surprised to see the vette turn similar, or faster times.

Now, for everyone comparing the vette to the GT - Welcome to the principle of diminishing returns. Isn't the rule in F1 something like $1,000,000 per second you want to go faster? You guys realize you can make a Miata out lap an R8 if you really wanted to, but not all of what you're paying for is JUST performance, and the performance you are paying for gets exponentially more expensive with exponentially decreasing returns.
This is the world we live in now, where your run of the mill sports cars are challenging "supercars," and it's been happening for a while now. The ~$80,000 GT-R was a supercar killer when it was first introduced, even though on paper it had no right to be.

The article is kindof easy to misinterpret.

It’s 490hp and 465tq for base

495/470 for Z51 or exhaust upgrade.

So 5 hp/tq

Not mentioned is the following of the Corvette and that of the Mustang. I'll be generous when saying 80% of the Corvettes on the road see little more than 80mph and a car show every other week. You can opinion that % but you get my point and no doubt agree to my point. This will be a game changer in getting the younger crowd into the car. Personally if anything I am a C6 fanboy and think everything afterwards is Batmanish, if you will. The C7 was in an ugly place IMO because it was transcending from Sports car to Super car. Ford just got hit...HARD. The best thing Chevy could do now is keep the price reasonable.

Maybe maybe not. GM has been testing this joker for a WHILE and has hit it with the kitchen sink.

I mean, both of what you guys said. It's not just a new platform, it's more or less new everything.

We have seen Honda with major **** ups just on a slightly redesigned engine.

I'm holding my ground and saying they will be more problematic for the first year than most first year cars. If not, I'll eat my words no problem.

They’ve been teasing this car for decades and finally it will be released. Im betting there is a waiting list already for it.
