I guarantee that the power will be the same no matter what Chevy publishes between the Z51 and base. Salesmen going to sale you on a promise. Unless it has a more aggressive tune that is. But it doesn't say anything about receiving a more aggressive tune.

Exactly....think most of us remember LS1 fbody cars putting the same dyno numbers down as C5 vettes that had 40-50 more hp on paper.

If I end up with one, I will go with the most basic version. I always screw myself by ripping all of the option stuff out and replacing it with aftermarket on the cars I get. I am becoming more wise as time goes by.

They only rated one EPA and SAE engine configuration, so they are likely very, very close in true output. The performance exhaust is probably 95% for sound anyway, and an easy way to charge an extra ~$1,200.
That was my understanding when they said the certified number is 495 during the unveiling. I havent see one single publication stating a lesser number, if the base car gets that same header setup that was shown in the launch then I doubt its really any less at all. What is a muffler good for these days? Probably literally 0 I would think

I don't care how GM managed a just below 60K base, they did it, the pricing is straight from the horses mouth too, not some fanciful dream from vette fanboys. I am sure they have planned every step of building this car meticulously and they are counting on volume to drive production costs down. I have no doubt GM will sell the shit out of these cars.

...Chevy is opening up a part of the automotive industry to those who would likely never get into the segment and it is revolutionary. ...

And that is why this thing is going to sell like hotcakes the first couple of years. Like I stated earlier, the new architecture alone could get me to buy one despite its hideous looks. (I'd buy a Z version, though.) Where else am I going to get that architecture and performance at that price? The Corvette has become a legitimate "before I die" kind of car for a lot more people.

How the **** did GM get to price this car for under $60k????
Id bet my bottom dollar that GM plans to use the base engineering data, architecture and tooling for at least a decade. Id bet Cadillac plans on dropping another shoebox body on this frame. Combined with them planning on building a metric shit ton every year, they just justified the volume of scale financial model.

Dont forget, GM said that they plan o export this to countries as a left AND right hand drive model also. There isnt a country on the planet that wouldnt be able to get a specific C8 for their market.

Smart on them, they took a page out of the S550 playbook on that one.

Based on this using not any exotic materials (I thought CF was kept to an absolute minimum) and it being on the heavier side (3350 dry, 3600 wet) I'm thinking it wasn't super crazy expensive to develop. Also, I'm sure GM is taking a big profit hit compared to the C7. This car is technically a higher halo than the C7 so they can justify the cost and lack of profit.

Exactly. Not to mention this car has been in development forever, so the R&D has been spread out.
Not to mention as the cost of the car increases(higher models) so does profit. Sell more of them, make more money
