The base comes with 495 470 direct from Chevy's website. Doesn't say anything about it being a Z51 option.

Horsepower and Torque
The 2020 Corvette delivers 495 horsepower† and 470 lb.-ft. of torque† making it the most powerful production Stingray ever.

What does the asterisk denote?

Well lots of people will have to eat their words then, I did find another article backing that up so we shall see. Im aware it requires the Z51 package to do the sub 3 but the tire is still the biggest player in that.

Sure enough I see everyone say "with performance exhaust" now
Kinda misleading on the base power but oh well, I wont actually be getting a base so no difference to me.

I went over the differences on the Z51 package for the C7 which is 5k and between the C7 Z51 package looks to have the same add ons as the C8 plus dry sump and tranny/diff coolers where the dry sump and coolers are standard on the C8. So package price may not change much at all. My local chevy has 5k discounts on corvettes within a couple months of release/new model year so im still confident the Z51 1LT can be had in the low-mid 60's

Oh, he's a baiter for sure. Especially when presented with facts.

But

This C8 that he started this topic on... Im seeing it as a game changer. If it proves to be wildly popular, Jim "We are a mobility company" Hackett needs to get off the pot and get Ford's ass in gear. Where is Alan Mullaly or John Coletti when we need them?

If building a Mustang GT Premium and the price tag is within 10k of a base Corvette C8... guys my Blue oval loving ass would take a VERY long and hard look at the C8.

And I detest what GM stands for, the bail out and the ignition recall debacle all fresh in my mind.

And I am sure not many will be getting the base either, so maybe that is why they did what they did. With its price point etc getting the Z51 will be the more popular setup with this car. Exactly how I would want to order it as well.

10k is a pretty big jump. Where I live, assuming the same down payment, the loan payment is almost $150 a month more. Not to mention not everyone shopping mustangs wants a 2 seater

Its not chump change, you are absolutely correct. But if the C8 makes the kind of performance jump its potentially able to from the C7, $10K additional to get a car potentially capable of supercar performance.... yeah Id pay that 10k extra.

Even if you get a base C8, in a few years the aftermarket will likely be there to turn it into a monster. Just wait till they start showing up as used cars and at Carmax etc.... they will be an incredible performance bargain.

Of course, we still need to see what the car is capable of, how the DTC transaxle will perform with excessive amounts of boost, durability etc. If GM didnt cut corners on this car, its a game changer.

Why are we arguing so much over 5hp from the "performance exhaust?" Does nobody on this site make exhaust the 1st or 2nd upgrade? An aftermarket exhaust (especially an "off-road" one) will easily give much more than 5hp at the crank (which is literally meaningless to performance).

SS has an LS3 and 2015-17 have either a 6 spd auto or manual. But the 14's are the best handling and quickest though, as the 2015-17 they detuned the engine PCM and the mag ride was softer sprung over the FE3 suspension that the 2014 had.

And more and more people are starting to notice the diamond in the rough that is the 14-17 SS/ Holden Commadore I can probably sell my SS for what I paid for it back in Feb and I put 3,000 more miles on it since then.
I honestly wish I had one of the Holden / Pontiac GTOs.

The aftermarket is already there for the LT series motor. The problem will be cracking the new ECUs GM is putting in these things. If and when HPtuners get's it cracked they will will probably want a boatload of vehicle credits to tune it.

Tadge J. already stated the car is tuneable and the aftermarket will be supported. With the new electronic architecture however, additional safeguards will need to be in place to prevent unauthorized (i.e. hackers) access.

Where do you see 5hp?

And the issue is gm advertised a hp rating not available on all cars

I guarantee that the power will be the same no matter what Chevy publishes between the Z51 and base. Salesmen going to sale you on a promise. Unless it has a more aggressive tune that is. But it doesn't say anything about receiving a more aggressive tune.

They only rated one EPA and SAE engine configuration, so they are likely very, very close in true output. The performance exhaust is probably 95% for sound anyway, and an easy way to charge an extra ~$1,200.
