This 2011/12 Super Snake Convert. picture was taken behind a Shelby Las Vegas Warehouse after the build was complete..........Note the White stripes........

I had the mileage wrong. Somewhere <21K. Previous pictures were pretty bad so I got better copies. Still not great, but you can actually see some stuff in these.

Onedrive link to some pics(not mine; don't kill me for the quality):
GT500

I have always like Black/Black, I need to look over the pictures, I'll be back. I do see 605 and 725 listed as options in the paperwork, no 800.

Yeah; it's kinda strange how it's listed there. Seems like that one page is a one-off potentially non-authoritative reference that the owner thinks is more important than is. Thanks again for looking; it's a friend of a friend I will help out if I get to experience a cool car in the process, but don't want to get burned..or stuck. But the owner and the friend are really pushing me. I type this as I'm staring around my shop at several other unfinished projects.

Ok, so just a quick glance now when I am home from work...............I am comparing the 2007 $56K eBay Super Snake with (round numbers) 15K miles and this NASCAR 427 with 22K or so miles.

The things that stick out to me right away, they are both 725's with the early (non-liquid cooled) 2.8 KB, the eBay car has the standard install Black 2.8 KB........

s-l500.jpg

and the NASCAR 725 has the $1300 Optional Polished 2.8 KB, not a big deal, but buyers of these cars like options that were available when the car was built and the Polished KB toaster is in more demand than the standard install Black KB, it is just the way it is.....Shiney and Pretty under the hood sells.

But what I really don't understand is the Alcoa's on that eBay car........Those Alcoa's could be ruined if they have been blasted to accept powder coating, and that is probably what has been done. You will never get them back to the original Dura-Bright finish if they have been media blasted, that could be as much as a $5000 hit to that car, and then the Baer Extreme front calipers, what is going on with them????? It looks like someone was trying to cover something up??..............another hit IMO............

s-l5001.jpg

Even though the NASCAR 725 horse car has a few more miles, the condition of these valuable items look much better than the lower mile eBay 725...........

Me personally, if I was looking for a car like this, the first factor(s) are original condition of the hard to find parts, I see some questionable items on the eBay 725, and the NASCAR 725 appears to be a nicer car overall.

Also notice the coolant tanks..........cast iron block rust discoloration, it is the way it is 2007-2010, keeping the coolant regularly flushed and changed will minimize the brown tanks, it looks like the eBay car has just changed the tank to get rid of the brown look.

If I were a buyer, I would vote for the cleaner overall look of the NASCAR 725 with a few more miles, than the lesser mile eBay 725 with a few questions, a closer inspection is needed on that car because of the upfront questions.

Thank you again for your time on this! I may try to go look closer at it tonight or in the morning. Just a lot going on and wasn't really looking when this popped up Friday. If I were able to get this for say, sub-$35K, would this be a "OMG BUY IT NOW" or a "you might get your money back out of it?"

The last 725 that I saw sell anywhere near sub-$35K was about 6 years ago, a Vista Blue 725 sold for $42K on eBay, it had a well worn interior and it looked like it had been driven on a dirt road most of its life, everything under the hood and elsewhere was filthy, and it had a number of dings in the body, not damage, just dings. I don't remember the miles but I seem to remember maybe 40K?

This 2008 Super Snake Prototype number 4 is pretty cool and the CSM number identifies it as a true Super Snake prototype..........BUT it is only a 605HP car and they are asking a whole lot of $$$$ for a 605....

2008 Ford Mustang GT500 Shelby Super Snake Prototype | eBay

^^^Again, Black on Black........Pretty Cool looking!

What would have really made it "POP" is if it had the Red insert seats/door panels. <<That option was only available on the Red, Black, White and Silver cars.

When a person starts to really research these cars, and their prices, and examine the cars details and options, 605, 725, etc., the actual cost of that original Shelby Super Snake upgrade is holding it's value for the most part, it is the GT500 itself, and it's depreciation that is falling just like all used GT500's, and that will continue until the point where these cars level off in value, it may be quite a while for that?

I would say that, for 35K, you would be getting a very cool Super Snake GT500 to have some fun cruising around in.

2 Things: it will ALWAYS be a GT500 (not like a new Super Snake where a Mustang GT was the base car)

It will ALWAYS be a Super Snake.

I would get the idea of collector car out of your head. I would keep the idea of a very unique and genuinely Shelby GT500 thats a blast to drive in your head. It could be a long time before the typical Super Snake starts to command six-figure value, let alone double your $35k investment.

My advice, buy it because its a great example Super Snake GT500 that you can enjoy for years to come. Dont buy it as an investment piece. I could be wrong, but thats what my gut says.

^^^^^^I agree, in today's world and these cars still being young (in the collector car market), don't buy with "investment" in mind. If the funds are available to buy the one you like, buy it and take care of it. It will be a unique car now and in the future.

I would be interested in hearing what price the Black NASCAR 427 725 has in mind? Let us know........

It will be REAL intersting to see what Sheby does with the 2020 Super Snake?......950HP?

**New info: it's got a Spec triple clutch. Insinuation is that since Shelby doesn't typically upgrade the GT500 clutch that they are commonly toasted at the higher power levels. Does this hurt value significantly?

Also, some of the fasteners under the hood as well as the tops of the coilovers are showing some corrosion and the hood louvers look to be faded and a bit spotty. Supposedly this happens after some miles "on all of them" due to the heat coming out of the engine bay. What do you guys think?

Thank you again for all of the opinions and info. I probably misspoke when I used the word "investment." My plan would be to help a friend of a friend get out from under a debt, have a (relatively)unique vehicle to enjoy for a while, and sell it within a year to a true Shelby fan without losing any $ out of pocket. Enjoying it for a year would be enough return on investment for me, and likely right at that point where I usually get bored of a vehicle and start getting the mod itch.

Don't get me wrong; I *am* a Shelby fan. Just not a fanatic. I'm more the guy that would rather have this car's drivetrain in a sleeper-ish '91 notch becaue I don't like them to see me coming. ;-) I've also gotten heavily involved in LS/LT stuff with a LSA CJ7, built '07 CTS-v, and a turbo-but-soon-blower '14 Z71. Should be nice to get back into a Mustang for a bit.

The asking price has been all over the place, from $55K to $40K and I'm going to negotiate something tomorrow and either pull the trigger or not. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Thanks again.

PS-- If they build the new SS on a GT500 base, perhaps we might see close to triple digits. Turbo Voodoo would be an interesting route; base the SS off the GT350R?

The clutch change is not a big deal, the oem clutch in those cars is "grabby" and some don't like the feel and some also seem to have worn them to the slipping point rater early in life. With my 2008, I am not on the clutch pedal for long and at traffic stops the transmission is in neutral and the clutch pedal "out".

The corrosion, it is part of life, if you decide to deal with it, it would probably better to do it sooner than later so that pitting does not occur (if it has not already). The louvers are powder coated, I have not heard any other members talk about fading, but they are Flat Black to start with.......

$40K-$55K is quite a spread, if $40K has been mentioned, I would try to stay as close to that as possible without causing friendship issues. For $40K or so on a NASCAR 725, you are going to be in good shape.

BTW - I did not look closely at the paperwork, does that car have the standard Ford Racing suspension (Blue sway bars) or the optional Eibach coilovers (Red sway bars)? <<Back in the early days the Eibach coilovers were only a $100 upgrade over the FRPP standard install suspension......$100 was a no-brainer for me to upgrade to the Eibach, I believe it is about $1000 now for the Eibach coilover upgrade.

The louvers are odd but theoretically not that big a deal to deal with. They don't look /bad/ until you get real close. They are not physically impaired in any way I could tell.
I did end up talking to Shelby and they indicated this car was automatically upgraded to the Eibach setup because during the time this car was upgraded, they were having supply issues with Ford's. Apparently this happened on a decent amount of cars on or around this cat's build date.

I know I keep saying this but /one more thing/: the chin spoiler has some spidering in the very front across about 7-8 inches right I'm the middle. I assume it's nudged some parking stops in it's day. Owner seems convinced it could be fixed up by a competent fiberglass tech but I am not sure. Would appreciate an opinion on fixability and/or effect on value.

Thanks.

Should be finalizing things tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how I make out.

Cosmetic body repair is easy. Its the structural stuff that gets hard. Shouldnt be a problem for a quality body shop.

That front splitter is Carbon Fiber, not Fiberglass, so that throws a whole different twist on "fixing" it.

I believe the 2007-2009 Super Snake splitter is still available through Shelby Perf. Parts and I would grab a second/spare set of hood louvers while they are available, just so you have them. <<<The cost of the CF splitter and the pair of hood louvers will be about $1000 give or take.....

Settled on $32,500. Title transferred. I'll give you guys an update once I get some seat time in it.

Thanks Again!!

That was a Great deal!!!

You will not find many owners of those cars willing to sell that kind of car for that kind of price, but if the seller needs to sell, and has a buyer, the deals can happen, well bought.

That is an awesome deal. Paid around 27K for my regular Shelby GT500. For an additional 5K, I would've loved to get into a Super Snake! You should enjoy that car, I enjoy mine and it's no where near the performance yours has.
