thanks for all the replies gang...

yes, he is an e-2 soon to be e-3 living in the barracks at camp Lejeune. Not making much money at all...around 750 every 2 weeks. between his car payment and insurance he is right at 500 a month and he has no tickets. Crazy. haha.

we will be going with the tune/headers and intake manifold option. he watched a bunch of videos of guys running in the 12's with that setup and got very excited. he also thought it sounded great. we will keep stock parts and once he sells the car he will revert back to stock since it is an MCA edition car.
Perfect plan. 12-13 second range is plenty of power to teach a young man. Was doing the same with my boy and his WRX until some chick from school rear ended him and totaled it.

My brother was stationed at Lejeune. There used to be some interesting bar fights in that area.
Marines like to have fun.

Honestly you can go faster with just a re gear (I didnt read the thread, may have been mentioned). My wife had two 3.7s, one auto and one manual. On the auto we went 3.73 and it was awesome, whereas a 3.55 is about right for the manual.

I'd personally do the re gear to 3.73, then an H-pipe (cat delete) and a tune, and you've got yourself a pretty solid mid to low 13 second car with very minimal effort.

if I had one I'd do gears, intake, tune, and a driveshaft (the stocker isn't balanced well and dies around 130mph).

I'm fairly certain they fixed that after the first year, as my wife and I road raced and she took hers up well over 100 (with 3.55s, not even the stock 2.73s) several times each session, over probably 5-6 weekends. Obviously, mod at your own risk, but if you wanted to save some money you could just throw a drive shaft safety loop on there. All that being said you really shouldn't be hitting those speeds outside of a race track, so unless he plans on tracking it... probably a non issue. Or like you said, just leave a limiter on it because 130 with a 2.73 is the same rpm as 95 on a 3.73.

But you're gonna need to put sum "meats" on that thing too...

Maybe a 275/40R19 tire setup on all four corners so you don't end up in a ditch or wrapped around something that you don't wanna "hug"...

I still think he should just figure out his autocross class, sign up for an event and have fun in a competitive environment.

Bolt-ons and tunes screw with the classing of the thing. If he competes in street class he will have a better chance of placing higher in his class versus the usually biased street touring or prepared classes.

In stock class you're looking at dampers, tires and the nut behind the wheel. He gets better at driving, he saves money over buying bolt-on parts yet still gets to drive in a performance environment.

Call Sam Strano at Strano Parts on suggestions for a stock class 3.7L Mustang. He will have a killer setup, within budget and can set you on the right path for classing.

EDIT: His car is classed in DS per the 2019 SCCA Rulebook.

I think this would be the ticket to a fast DS(D-street) classed V6 Mustang:

Koni Sport Struts/Shocks(keep the stock springs per the rules)
18x8" lightweight wheels
255/45R18 200tw tires
Snell SA2015 helmet
CG Lock(for the seatbelt to hold him in place)
Blue Painters Tape or a set of numbers/class letters from Trackdecals.com

Its usually $35-40 to do an autocross event. Sign him up for the local SCCA events and have fun. Once he gets the feel of the car, the power delivery and rotation he can start fine tuning with the adjustable Koni dampers along with maybe a larger front sway bar to get it to rotate more(rules allow 1 sway change in street classes).

My son loves his 2013 V6 mustang. He has been making payments on it for about 6 months and now wishes to increase power. I told him he needs to make a few more years of payments before he would be able to get rid of it. So he then asked what he could do to get more power. Haha.

Couple questions...

1. Is there any decent turbo/blower kits for the 3.7?

2. Does it make more sense to coyote swap it? He has the auto, will that bolt right in?

Just curious what his most cost effective option is and I know you guys are the experts!

Thanks in advance!
rear end gears would be a nice upgrade. and a tune from one of the mustang guys.
