Hey guys,

Hoping you can help me out. I bought my car used with about 20k miles on it in spring 2018. It is a 2016 PP. The car is pristine (see the pic for your viewing pleasure). However, there is one "imperfection" that bothers the hell out of me. No one else notices it but I know it is there. It is a small (dime-sized) imperfection in the clearcoat on the driver's side door. It looks like someone tried to touch up a small series of nicks in the paint and totally screwed up the clearcoat application. I've added pics so you can see what I am talking about. Any advice on a way to correct this? Thanks in advance!

You can try to lightly wet sand the area to level the touch up paint. Being with 1000 grit, then move to 2000. Use a mild compound, then polish.

Got the same problem. I'm taking mine to the body shop at the end of the year when I get my tax return. Not worth the hassle to try and wet sand and polish.

Agreed. I will most likely go this route. Its amazing because it is so small and unnoticeable, yet it bothers me. LOL

I know how you feel. I bought a 2018 Challenger SXT Plus from Enterprise Rent a Car. got a screaming deal and it was fully loaded with only 17,000 miles on it for a fraction of what a new one would cost, but is has a ding on both doors, so I'm just gonna bite the bullet and let the body shop fix it. :)

It almost looks as if something hit or struck the car there. When a vehicle gets 'egged' it will sometimes 'fracture' the clear coat similar to this.

Prior to wetsanding I would attempt(if you are comfortable with it and have the tools/know how/etc) to correct that area/surrounding area with a heavier compound/pad combo and see what it does for you. Just be sure to take some paint reading prior to doing any work as it may be very thin in that area and you could wind up with a much larger area that needs repair/repainting.

Hope this helps!

The picture looks like something hit it, damaging the paint, and they smeared some touch up paint over the larger areas. That will need a repaint.

Call around, I know a guy that can fix things like that and deep scratches without having do do the whole door like a body shop will tell you. They will also have to blend it into other body panel probably at body shop.
