When I think of 'loss' it's the difference between what you have in something, compared to what you sell it for...which includes depreciation.

That's how I see it too. It just means we are accepting costs of living/function/depreciation as financial loss. Technically, it is.

Reading this thread is why I tend to lease daily drivers. Having transportation is an expense and I really don't like being out of warranty or dealing with frequent repairs. I've owned a a lot of vehicles as well,including my current Challenger Hellcat which I don't need to get to work. It's only a "loss" when you sell it. The last loser I had was my 2012 Mustang GT. I think I had about 3k in negative equity when I got rid of it. I hated it so much I didn't care.
