Hey everyone. I was just wondering how many people on here are using radar/laser detectors? If you are, I’d love to know which one, and your general thoughts on it. I’ve looking around, reading reviews etc etc, but 1st hand info from “boots on the ground” would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Uniden R3 is vastly superior to Escort 9500 IMO. I have had both. My R3 usually gives me 1-2 mile advance if they keep their radar on the whole time. I highly recommend it. Of course they are not invincible but they have saved me several times. Highly recommend.

Ain't going to work if the party using it is trained in visual estimation and then confirms it with radar/lidar (as they are required to by law.)

My most satisfying stops when I worked traffic was when I would get people with a radar/lidar detectors. Most were Uniden or Valentine, with an occasional Escort here and there. Safe speeding to you sir and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Valentine V1 excellent for those desert trips and CHP who leave their radar detectors on. I can pick them up with a 1 minute warning to a 5 second warning... you just need to leave it in your daily to see how it works. The best thing about it is it tells you if the alert is coming from front, back or sides. I’m in CA so Ka band is the only thing I leave on, its 100% cops, usually a bike cop under a bridge with his radar or units with radar built in.

Agree don't speed but I've used a Valentine 1 for almost 20 years now and it worked great! Saved me a few times.

Waze is also your friend. I was driving down to Florida and Waze alerted me that police was sighted a few miles ahead. The radar detector would not see that far ahead - I actually did not even have it with me but I just know it would not have gone off for another few miles. So I placed the car on cruise control within the speed limit. Another driver comes zipping by fast. I kept cruising and about 2 miles on that guy was pulled over by a cop - lol! He should have had Waze with him!

Valentine 1 ,but laser is unbeatable in the hands of a skilled operator.
Waze is quite accurate. Depends on user participation but I have found it to be pretty spot on. Police sighted, pot hole ahead, car pulled over ahead you name it its there. Occasionally the police moved on and were not there when it alerted me. Waze gives you a bird's eye view miles ahead. Really nice service from the Israeli company.

I have a 9500, but will likely upgrade to a Uniden R7. Cops around here typically blast Ka band, so my detector alerts before I see their car. Hondas and Toyota’s emit a nuisance K band for their blind spot monitor system. The Uniden has a notch filter to squash these false alerts. I may consider a jammer in the future.

Have an escort 8500.

Not a huge fan of them. Over time it'll get false laser warnings and it picks up a lot of random K-band radar. Still semi-works, so rocking it for now.

I don't usually speed to the point where state troopers would pull me over on I-95. Keep it 10 over on cruise control and even with dead on laser hits they look for the bigger fish to fry.

Been using a V1 since 2002. Have sent it in for upgrades twice now. Still works like a charm.

same here, although mine kept blowing the fuse and stopped working completely. I actually spoke to Nick I think his name is who created it and he said they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I haven't used it in 4 months now and I honestly don't think I will be anymore.

Recently picked up a Uniden DFR6, a cheaper and older model. I haven't put it to use on the highway yet, just been running it around town and it's been great.

Depending on where you live, getting a radar detector with GPS is awesome as it allows you to lockout areas that are known to have false alerts or mark known speed traps.

I actually went to a radar detector forum and searched around there to determine what would best fit me.

This x65mph

Truth is, we all speed. Hopefully most of us are exercising judgement when we feel the need to put the pedal down and aren't pulling this crap where anyone else can get hurt.

Waze is a great tool.

The absolute surest way I know to never, ever get a "warning ticket". I would tell speeders their warning ticket was on the box when they purchased one.

Uniden R3 here as well. It blows my old Escort 9500ix out of the water. I wouldn’t consider a V1 now a days unless they completely redesigned it with gps and a actual display instead of all red dots.
