So we had some fun the other day with Cody's GT500 at VMP Performance. Cody is running a 10% Lower and 2.5 upper on a stock GT500 longblock. The car is tuned by Lund Racing. It made incredible power and surprisingly held together. Cody plans to run it at the track and see what it can do. He is prepared however to replace the engine if the rods decide they have enough.

Getting it with the 07 iorn block! I though i had balls pushing 870rwhp on my stock engine..... thats a different level. Makes you think whata set of cams would do to the numbers lol.... congratulations

I’d like to see how many passes your buddy could get on that thing before it blows. Sounds like he’s ready to build anyways, so would be interesting to try it.

Personally I wouldn’t, as popping a motor can oftentimes result in damage to the heads or even the blower, which can add significantly to the cost, but more power to him if he wants to give it a go.

Keep it under 6500 and let er eat!!

when i had my GT500 i had plans to push mine to it's limits.. never got around to it unfortunately.

Keep in mind, the whole rotating assembly is forged... rods become weak at high rpm but can withstand a shit ton of top loaded force.

I have 3 gt500s here at the shop now and one low mile (20k miles) that we are replacing the engine due to a rod knock. Car is bone stock never abused and still with the original owner no mods or anything.

I guess its just luck of the draw.

So awesome to see other GT500 guys finally pushing these engines. As long as it doesn't have any knock I don't think it will snap a rod.
