Who here does NOT have the infamous tick? We’ve all heard about people here that have it but I’m interested to hear about people who do not have the tick. Also, list how many miles your car has if it does not have the tick. I found a really clean 2011 gt with 17k miles but have not had time to check it out yet but when I do I will certainly listen for any strange sounds coming from the engine bay. Am I being too concerned?
Thanks.

I understand that the tick generally causes no harm, I’m curious to hear who has not encountered the tick at all.

My car is a very early 2011 (March 2010 build date), and so far it does not have the infamous tick. If you read the internet too much, you will think that every Coyote ticks. Not true.

PS it has 78k miles.

Some do and some don't. My buddy has a 11 f150 coyote with 87k miles on it in his cobra and its as quiet as can be. Mine is a 2013 with 11k miles and ticks.

'14 GT, about 16K miles running 9 psi boost for 12 of that. No ticking. Not big on weird noises so I'm okay without 'em.

OP, the problem with the internet and "sounds," is that one person's tick is another person's normal.

I was one of the first with the 2011 5.0 (purchased April 2010) . . . and possibly the first to go prime time on the forums with a tick. I was the one who coined the "BBQ ignitor" description. The problem I saw as I tried to regulate the threads, is people were jumping in claiming to have the problem, but their sound ended up being something totally different.

I had the "BBQ ignitor" tick that was very offensive. It occurred when hot and right off idle. Came from the bottom of the motor somewhere. But, I also had a washing machine kind of ticky sound at hot idle from the passenger side wheel well that was less offensive, but seems more common. I ended up suing Ford because they wouldn't give me another motor.

After a year of stress, we settled with a new motor . . . and I got a hefty payout for my trouble. With the new motor, there was no BBQ ignitor tick, but it still had the idle sound. I just ignored it and pushed on.

So, when people report a "tick," be sure what they are hearing. And, be sure what you need to look for when purchasing.

Mines been making noise since as long as I can remember. Been WOT with it lots, changed oil several times, etc..

I guess as long as it continues to run idc. Out of warranty anyway. :p

No tick on my original motor with 13k miles. Still waiting to get my car back with a built motor. Run 5w30 oil or thicker that should take care of any tick you are having.
