Just picked up an 89' GT

Car is pretty decent. Actually a one owner car. I had sold the owner a GT new in 87' and he totaled it. He was in the service and living in Arizona when that happended so he bought the replacement (this car) there. Good thing is this car didn't see any PA winters for the first 7 years. So it doesn't appear to have any rust on it.

Bone stock
138k miles
Has been repainted the original factory color once.

The left side drivers seat side bolster on the seat back is torn. Anyone know if the original seat material is available so I could get that repaired?

Here is a picture from a year ago when he had it detailed last. Its been sitting for most of the year so it needs a good detailing again.

Congrats! I bought a 90 coupe in May. Feels good to finally have another one.

Man I'd love to have a coupe! Just can't see paying the price for what they're bringing right now.

I have been selling Ford's now since 1986. So I was selling these cars new back in the day. Nobody wanted Mustang coupes when they were new. Everyone wanted the hatch back cars. Now a clean low mileage coupe brings similar money to a comparable condition and mileage Cobra.

That truly is awesome. I bought my first 91 GT back in 97'. Back then I'd never consider buying a coupe either.

Here is what I'm looking to get repaired on the drivers seat.

You can see the door weather striping hasn't held up well. I'm local to CJ Pony Parts. They sell the entire weather stripping kit for both doors and the hatch for $115. So that will get done also.

Second picture shows how nice the rest of the interior is.

Did some work on the paint. The car sat outside and wasn't touched for almost exactly a year. So the paint took a beating. Our other store inspected the car a year ago yesterday. It was serviced, 2 new rear tires, new front brakes and rotors and detailed. The car had 20 miles (yes 20) put on it in that time.

You can see the bad oxidation before some 2 stage buffing.

You might be very lucky. Looks like you rip is in the gray vinyl NOT the "tweed" fabric (the TMI tweed is close, but not exact). You should be able to have any decent upholstery shop fix that up.

Just called the local shop that repairs auto interiors. Great news! Talked to them and sent them a picture. He said he probably has the vinyl in stock and if not he thinks he can still get the actual original material.

That’s great news Man. I’m trying to decide between grey and black for my interior. I like black but it is hott here so I may do a 2 tone with both.

I really like the black interior on the Mustangs. I like leather in my newer cars but prefer cloth in the earlier one's.

I actually pulled the drivers seat this morning and dropped it off for repair already. Also have an order put together for little odds and ends that need addressed. Ash tray lid, ash tray lid repair kit, trim around drivers door interior handle, door seals, flow master AF cat back and a few other things I can't think of right now.

It's the bright red but I'm not sure what the paint code is. Believe it or not I have saves the paint chip brochures since 1989' but for some reason I only have the truck one for 89 and not the one for cars. I'll look at the door sticker and see.

So actually I was incorrect about where this car came from. The father of the guy I bought the car from is also a customer of mine and currently has a new truck on order. He stopped in yesterday checking on his truck and I asked him more about the Mustang. This car was bought here at the store I work at. Unfortunately we purged all of the records that were that old so I can't pull any of the original paperwork from the deal. I also hate to say it but I can't remember if I sold him this car or not.

I ordered some of the interior pieces from CJ Pony Parts that needed repaired or replaced. So far I've replaced the drivers door weather stripping, the black plastic trim pieces around the interior door release handles and went to install the new ash tray lid. The new lid doesn't match the original lid and console color. Our body shop has interior paint so they're going match the new lid up for me. I got the complete weather stripping package so as I have time I'll replace the rest of them. Got a new ash trade, old one was all rusty on the bottom.

Found a BBK off road H-pipe on Craigslist that I picked up for $75 and I have the FM American Thunder 40 series cat back on order. The clutch is slipping in the car so once the rest of the exhaust is here I'll pull the trans and put in a new clutch, throw out bearing, pilot bearing and pinion seal. Hopefully next weekend.

Any suggestion on the best trans fluid to run in the T-5? I've read a few threads and people seem to be all over the place with sugggestions.

Mine probably needs changed again. It’s been since 04 74-75k miles has 89k on it now i think. I actually found Type-F Motorcraft and used it last. Not sure what I’d use now.

I don't think the fluid has been changed in this in a long time. So probably even the OEM spec fluid just being fresh will help performance. But if there is a better fluid I'd rather do that.

Almost everyone, my first two mustangs back in the late 80's early 90' were both coupes (86 and 88). Had I known then what I know now.....
