I have been in the market for awhile now and have the opportunity to buy a 2010 with one owner that has 12,000 miles on it or should I truly wait for a 13-14 gt500?

I only plan on taking my 2014 raptor and gt500 to car shows an have a like dream tow package.

Now I really don't care about the power difference as much but I can pick the 2010 up for 30k or less if I negotiate. or wait another year to buy a 13-14.....

I know the differences but is it truly worth waiting another year? I plan to do cosmetic conversion to make it a 13-14 front an rear change. if so on the 10 id do a paint correction and recolor the strip kit to grabber blue on black. ill prolly have about 35-37k in total after done with it...

I can’t stand those who do body kits to make it look like something they don’t have.

Spending $7/8k to pretend? Makes no sense.

In my mind the worst 500 is the 10.
By far the best bang for buck is the 11/12 comp at $35k and TVS(600rwhp at 3700lbs) you have the power of the 13 at under $40k. The 13/14 still selling at $45k.

I don’t think under 40k for low mileage and why would that bother you so much? It’s completely cosmetic. And I conversion is not near that expensive 2500 at most

If you truly want a 13-14, I would save up and buy a 13-14 so you aren't kicking yourself once the excitement wears off. With that said, if you just plan on going to cars shows, know they differences (and are okay with them), and would be happy with a converted car, save the money and get the 2010.

You mentioned the 2010 has 12,000 miles, are you specifically looking for a low mile car? I just looked on Autotrader and there are 2013-2014's with 30,000-50,000 miles in the low $40,000 range. If you're planning to have $35-$37K wrapped up in swapping body parts/paint/stripes to have the 2010 the way you want, it may be worth saving a few more thousand for a 13-14.

I’d prefer something with under 20k and if it’s a 13-14 it would have to have Recaro seats.

Yea, go with the 13-14.

Last of the S197 GT500, better blower, some cool tech upgrades inside(dash/LC) and more features depending on options like coolers and recardo seats.

I don't think he is "pretending." Let's face it, the 13-14 tail lights are a superior upgrade from the 10-12 cars. Tons of guys do the swap even on their GTs and V6's. Tons of guys also do the front bumper swap, especially with the "grille delete."

OP, I love the black w/grabber stripes. Very nice looking! That said, a Trinity car is worth the price in terms of power and looks, but if you're just looking for a car show cruiser, you can save at least $10k by going with the 2010. If you were going to race it and drive the hell out of it, the 13-14 would be my choice.

Good luck!

Get a 2013-2014. Best looking GT500 I think is Grabber Blue with Black stripes. One thing I would do is if you are traveling to buy is get the exact color and options you want.

Best option is glass roof. The non recaro seats are very nice.

I must be a poser then with my 13-14 tail lights AND 13-14 headlights on my 2011 GT500. Hell, I should badge down to a Base mustang and really embrace it. :/

Nothing wrong with a 2010. Be honest with yourself, if you are wanting to turn the GT500 into a face melting tire shredding beast, a 13-14 will make it easier to get there but you can certainly do it with a 2010. Realistically the engine management system on the 2011-2014 is superior to the 07-10 GT500s. So if you want to go performance, the 13-14 is ALSO a better idea.

But, if all you want is the LOOK of the 13-14, you could get a 10 and get the parts for 13-14. Even with 13-14 appearance parts on it its STILL a GT500. Id have an issue if you were asking between a 13-14 GT and clone up to a GT500 with lights an badges or a 13-14 GT500.

There is only one guy on here that has the right to call his overhauled Mustang GT a GT500 and thats @LEXiiON. That man put some WORK into his car.

GT500s are on the down turn as far as value goes. Mine's lost 12K since I bought it 4 years ago (retail and private party). The 13-14 has held decently, but its come down as well. When the 2020 GT500 launches, its anyone's guess.

I would get the 13/14 if I was you. When I got my 12 I did not think that I wanted a 13/14 and now wished I would have gotten it. Out of the box it is better vehicle and will hold its value better as well.

I would say go with the 13-14 as you want to convert the 10 to look like the 13-14 anyway.

Also waiting another year until the new GT500 is released may be the right move as I am sure there will be a few 13-14 owners wanting to jump to the newest model.

I'd save a few more grand and get a 13/14. By the time you cosmetically convert your 10-12 to a 13/14 you'll be at or close to a 13/14. You're doing it for car shows so once you do get the body parts you're probably going to have it painted anyway or paint corrected. You mentioned having the ultimate dream tow package. Why not have the last year of the S197?

I appreciate all the responses everyone! Some really great input here.

Everyone’s points do hold some real value!

Just going to have to figure out if picking up one now or just hold off till 2020 spring an pick up a 13-14.

I’m not going to go wild with power maybe a vmp upgrade an supporting mods.
