Just picked up an 89' GT

Car is pretty decent. Actually a one owner car. I had sold the owner a GT new in 87' and he totaled it. He was in the service and living in Arizona when that happended so he bought the replacement (this car) there. Good thing is this car didn't see any PA winters for the first 7 years. So it doesn't appear to have any rust on it.

Bone stock
138k miles
Has been repainted the original factory color once.

The left side drivers seat side bolster on the seat back is torn. Anyone know if the original seat material is available so I could get that repaired?

Here is a picture from a year ago when he had it detailed last. Its been sitting for most of the year so it needs a good detailing again.

Congrats! Loved my 88 GT hatch. It is solely responsible for my lifelong addiction to Ford power and muscle cars in general.

Edit - I see in your sig that you have been a Ford salesman for 32 years. That’s great when a salesman believes in and owns what he sells. Where in central PA / what dealer?

I've been selling Fords since 1986' and had several Fox V8 Mustangs as demos. That's where my love came for these cars.

Good find. I've had my 88 GT since 1992. LMR sells the replacement seat covers. There is also a few aftermarket companies that make some really nice covers.

Thanks for the info. The seats are in pretty good shape except for that bolster. I'll have to look at the options.

The first thing I'm going to do to the car is rip the stock exhaust off of it and put some FM 40's!!

That’s way cool. You technically had possession/access to the car prior to the original owner. Congrats on the nice find.

These are the threads that make me want another one. Had a black on black 93 GT stick car for awhile. That was the car that started my addiction to drag racing :)

A good upholstery shop can probably match it up. I had the left bottom bolster of my F250 redone before I sold it. Local guy who did it out of his house. Charged me $100 total for the material, labor, and removing/installing the seat. It matched perfectly. That included new foam too. I think I got a killer deal - probably would cost 3 times that elsewhere.

Cool

As a many foxbody owner, good luck. Parts pricing sucks now and they've become so hot that it's not as cheap/easy to own as they once were.

I sold my last one and unless it's a hatch LX, i'm probably out of the game.

Looks to be a pretty clean example. It is crazy that you sold the car to the owner new and now you are buying it from him!

if this is such a un molested 1 owner car, I would honestly unbolt as much of the stock exhaust as you can if you want to do a cat back, don't go cutting anything.

Seriously, how many fox bodies out there still have a factory exhaust after all this time? Almost every fox these days has flowmasters on it.

My late Grandmother had that exact car....I used to drool over it always as a kid. She had a new GT every 3 years for as long as I remember until the day she died.

Beautiful man.

That’s the only way to buy them, stock as a rock or close to it.

I bought my black 1990 coupe stock to the air silencer 6 years ago. Next thing you know the interior is stripped and re-insulated, every nut and bolt on the chassis and suspension is out, cut and polish the paint, wheels

Congrats man. Gotta love the foxes. I just put mine up for sale haha. But if it doesn’t sale I’m cool with it. Besides the flowmaster what other mods do you have planned for it?

Today's update. I've been driving the car for the last few days. It actually drives great. I expected the bushings to all be worn out but that's not the case at all. Brought the car to work because it runs out of inspection this month. I was back in the shop when the tech put the car on the lift (I hadn't seen the underside yet). Probably 5 of the shop tech's all came over with their flash lights to check the car. Bone stock except one muffler was replaced. No rust at all on the car! All of the techs were in awe. Just like I was.

Love those FM 40’s! Had them on my ‘88 back in 1991!

I have an 88' Hatch that's my road course car. Was a race car it's entire life so the body looks like hell. Car is running a mild built 351 with 425/425 at the crank and has an off road H-pipe with FM 40's. Sounds bad ass. Also have had FM 40's on several other 5.0 cars I had.

I found a BBK of road H-pipe here on the local Craigslist. So I'll be putting that one also.

That’s way cool. You technically had possession/access to the car prior to the original owner. Congrats on the nice find.

I had sold him an 87' new when he graduated from high school He went in the air force and totaled that car in Arizona where he was stationed. He bought this car in Arizona. He eventually came back to this area and lives right next to the sister Ford store that I work for. They've been doing all of the work to the car since 2003 He put 20 miles on the car since a year ago when he had it detailed and state inspected.

One company makes the one

I'll check that out. Thank you. Interior is nice except for that one bolster so I want to get that fixed.

Thank goodness its NOT!. I'm not a red fan at all and the red with red would make me ill. lol

See explanation above for better detail. Sold him an 87' new that got totaled. This was the replacement he bought in Arizona.

See above. One muffler is stock. lol

Thanks!

Probably not much. May throw a set of wheels and tires at it. Think I'm going to keep this car pretty much stock.
