Get a comfortable AWD daily driver family car that meets your budget and forget about performance. A daily should be reliable, cheap to own, comfortable for all passengers and get OK gas mileage.

Then twin turbo the mustang and your fun meter will be pegged.

I currently have a Fusion for a DD and my Mustang. I do not get to drive the Mustang much (Only in summer and only a fraction of that time) with 1 child. I know I will never drive it with 2. That leaves me driving the Fusion most of the time and its boring. I also do not want to keep putting money into the Mustang and I don't just want it to sit there.

The rational was to get a DD that serves as DD and Fun car. Something comfortable when just driving and something I can whip around when I want to have fun. I was really locked on the RS but in the back of my head something kept telling me to keep looking. I finally listened to the back of my head(thanks to you guys). That's when the Audi S3 really hit me hard(The style of Golf R i just cant get past it, and pre-owned the go for around the same). Looks good, room to make it look better. Seems very capable in the corners for those fun times. I love Dual clutches so I'm good with that. I will miss a manual but dual clutches make me happy too. Will be better for a DD and for the wife.

audi = unreliable, expensive, POS ....oh, and doesn't hold value worth a shit

Plan is to get this car while still under some factory warranty and extend said warranty. I do not plan on doing any warranty voiding mods (tuning) while I have this vehicle.

Overall wife is on board with doing this. The plan is to get her a 4 door jeep as a toy next year,(We will still have her Escape as well) so we will still have a toy....

Mustang just has to sell first. I don't have to sell it first but would prefer to do so.

I considered the Golf R, I would want to do an 18+ with the refresh if I considered it and those are not quite in my range. But I just can’t over how plain it looks.

RS7 is not in the budget. Not looking to spend much more than 30K. Have the ability to spend more just really don’t want to.

I also considered a STi but having a hatch seems more handy.

If I was in the market for an AWD vehicle that is fun to drive and very usable as a daily it would definitely be between the Golf R & Focus RS. The sole reason only these two are on my list is that they are both hatchbacks.

I believe the Focus will hold it's value a little better and I prefer the looks of the Focus.

I am actually going with Audi S3. I am forgoing a hatch. Trunk space was ample enough for what we need. Car seats fit fine in the rear both front facing (ton of room) and rear facing (I am 6'2" and i was able to sit in the front passenger seat). So, now I am in search of one.

I just loved how it felt and drove. And actually really like the looks.

An Audi S3 is a great option as well. I am not sure if they still are, but I know previously it was exactly the same drivetrain as the GTI.

As a family car it is pretty hard to beat the versatility of a hatchback (unless you have a 4 door truck).

Hi Guys,

So I have been in a bit of a quandary lately. I currently own a 2003 Mustang GT, mildly modified and a 2013 Fusion Titanium AWD. I have had the Mustang for 7 years and I am kinda bored with it. Doesn't put a smile on my face any more. I only drive it in the summer during nicer days as well. I thought of supercharging it but I do not want to put all this money into that car anymore, doesn't seem worth it to me. Still handles/feels like a New Edge Mustang even with the suspension mods.

A car I miss dearly is my old Contour SVT and the RS kinda reminds of it, but obviously a few levels higher. I do not want a ST as I want AWD and power without having to mod. (Driven both)

I have been thinking about this for some time and the RS seems to check most of the boxes for me. But in order to do that I would sell the Mustang, trade the Fusion, and Pick up the RS as the daily/Fun car. I miss having a fun driving car everyday.

Now if I was single with no kids, no problem, just get a newer Mustang. But I am married with a 3 year old and plan to have one more. I know once #2 happens, the Mustang (or any other 2 door car) will never get driven so I want something fun to drive everyday while being able to do some family duty. Wife has an Escape so big trips can be done with that.

I was all ready set to go and do this but I feel like I am getting cold feet. (Mustang is for sale currently and would prefer to sell it before doing this, Fusion would get CarMaxed or traded)

Thoughts?

When in doubt....do nothing! It will work itself out.

Op, im kinda in the same boat.

Find a car youre deadset on, then sell the stang and buy that car you like.

Sent from my SM-G892A using the svtperformance.com mobile app
Yeah. Going for a S3 for sure. Just checked the right boxes for me for a fun full time daily. My buddy who has his own dealership is watching the auctions for me. Almost bought one Friday but couldn’t go to auction with him and just gave him a number. The car I liked went just over that number. If I went, I prolly would pulled the trigger.
The search continues.

Mustang is still for sale but I don’t need to sell it first to buy this new one. Would like to but not mandatory.

I had a Focus RS for about a year and enjoyed it. Moved to a Fusion Sport, running a filter and tune and very fun to drive as well.

OP I'm going to make a new suggestion

As these cars are becoming hard to find clean w/o 9 million miles, I don't suggest selling. You might have a dry spell for 6 months - year of not driving it, but you will be happy you hung on to it.

UPDATE*****
Well. Picked up the S3 last weekend. It has been a blast so far. Nice and compliant in comfort mode, a blast in Dynamic mode. Feels much quicker than the 292HP. Power delivery is very smooth. The DCT is fantastic in both auto and manual mode. Car is very comfortable and just has an overall quality feel this is outstanding. The MMI is good, the B&O sound system is awesome, and love the looks. Was getting over 30mpg on the highway (about33). Fits the family well. Extremely happy with my purchase.

AWD helps significantly to maneuver and control a vheicle. It also balances out acceleration so you don't get snap oversteer like you would in RWD.

Either way, Snow Tires for the Win regardless of powertrain.
AWD does not make your car stop any faster in snow.
I see a lot of people with this mentality here in Sweden and honestly in my opinion AWD less safe than 2wd in my honest opinion.
Why? In snow, with AWD which just plows on, you're given a false sense of security believing that "it's not that bad". But once you need to brake, it does not matter at all what wheel drive you have. It will slow down in the same manner anyways, and with false sense of security given by AWD you're often in situations in higher speeds than said 2WD.

Just my 2 cents but hey, I spend only 6 months a year in snowy and icy conditions.

Love the color.

VAG nailed it with the DSG system, my father's TT is a hoot.
