That is a wonderful experience to see in person, I saw one in Denver a few years ago at a rail museum, it was huge. That was a time when railroading was in it hayday.

Steamtown in Scranton, PA has 4012 on display. Seen it plenty of times. Would love to see 4014 on the move but with how expensive they are to run, I doubt it'll ever be anywhere near the east coast.

Here is an old shot of my car with 4012

Those old locos are unbelievable. There are a bunch of them - and a HUUUUGE one - at the Henry Ford Museum. If that place isn’t on your bucket list you need to add it right now. 15 minutes from the Woodward Dream Cruise.
That particular one is an Allegheny I believe. And definitely worth the trip. Massive mechanical marvel.

Update posted from Omaha World Herald 7-14-19:

"Flooding in south-central Nebraska had halted the steam engine’s trip across the state this week, but after a detour to Grand Island, Big Boy continued its journey Friday, with stops in Central City, Columbus and Fremont before arriving in Omaha near 12th and Cuming Streets about 6:30 p.m. (Friday, 7-12-19)"

The one at the Ford museum was stunning. I remember from a distance thinking I was at the end of the exhibits because it looked like a wall from the distance I was at, to say they are massive is an understatement. Very cool to get up close are really look them over. Our ancestors were some bass ass machinery builders.

Tomorrow is the day. Going to try and get some video. Taking a late lunch and hoping to see this thing steaming down the track on it's way into Mason City IA for the night.

Lousy rain, did not get a good clip trying to not get soaked. Of course I didn't bring an umbrella.

The evening was clear and got some shots of it.

I’ve been there numerous times as a kid. Probably 6-8 times or more as well as Greenfield Village. I have family in Michigan and used to spend a lot of my Summers there when I was younger. My uncle worked for Ford his entire adult life and made it a point to go every year.
