I could never do a all inclusive. I have to get out and explore. Saying that no way I am going to any turd world country. Too much here to see. Been to every state and 5 provinces and still a lot out there.
totally agree. I like to hit every beach/city/bar/hot spot in the whole island. DR is a beautiful place.

Yes or No?

I'm inclined to say yes. State department figures show this year to be no worse than others. I believe 1 story blew up and now the rest are just copy cat and or getting blown out of proportion. Just my opinion, What do you say?

Keep in mind, Bought and paid for already.
Would lose a minimum of $300 to reboog flights and go somewhere else that the airline goes to.
Your life > $300? Up to you lol!

This looks very suspicious. Some people think drinks are being spiked with antifreeze.

What's waiting for you over there? A #10 hawt blonde?! If not what's the attraction to these kind of places? Where people probably piss (and crap) in the water. No thanks.

A British school had the great idea to send their pupils and a teacher to Ghana. Their parents signed off on it. And paid for it financially! Who in their right mind would ever consider such a lovely destination? They could have helped people locally in the UK. Would have been cheaper, more patriotic and no raping at gun point unless they ended up assisting a grooming gang in Rotherham or a comparable shit hole in the UK! The parents should be whipped for being so careless with their daughters. Disgusting how stupid and naive they were / are!

There's a TON of other places to visit in the Caribbean that you don't have to worry about getting killed in. After the last round of nonsense with the liquor, nah I'm good.

Aruba is where it's at.
What's the attraction to these places? I guess I don't get it. Are there cheap #10 hookers parading on the beaches?

I can understand a mudshark's motivation to go there. But a straight male? Are there things....?? ;)

Dude you could die....
You basically HAVE to drive a car to get around....you don’t HAVE to go to a remote location where people are dying in droves...
And you have control over your vehicle. Not so much control over where a foreign country gets their poisoned liquor.
Just my .02

Somewhat. We've definitely avoided multiple nasty collisions caused by distracted idiots. When my wife got hit head on at over 100mph two years ago, she had no time to react. She then got hit head on again, 3 months later, stopped at an intersection. Some non-US Citizen crossed lanes and slammed into her, claimed he fell asleep at the wheel. Two years later and she's still having health problems from it.

You have to be vigilant out there. I know I take it to an extreme, there's more to the story I won't share on SVTP.

if you are staying at a reputable place YOU WILL BE FINE.

if you think with your brain and use common sense you will be fine. Don't BE ALONE at night. Don't get drinks from a shady bar. Don't carry loads of cash. Don't leave your shit on the beach. Don't buy weed from Jaffar on the beach. Again .....common thinking skills.

Go for it bro. You have a better chance of dying in the car ride to the airport. Worried about murder rate? Pull up the city you live in . Violence is pretty bad no matter where you are. You just have to avoid it and be SMART. Oh ....and maybe you can sneak a knife some where for protection.

Glad I'm not the only one that thinks this way. I'm not trying to be insensitive- just looking at statistics. I really do understand the concern with DR right now, and as others pointed out... the extra vigilance from travelers and police involvement may actually make it safer than usual. As for tainted alcohol, I've been told by several people who have visited DR that they instruct you not to drink from previously opened containers. Sealed, recognizable only. There are some "Excursion" trips where you make your own rum- they say, keep it as a souvenir, but don't drink it.

We've been to the DR a few times, so for us we will just choose not to go there for a while and visit new places instead.

That said, I have friends that are at the Iberostar on Bavaro beach right now, they're not dead yet...

Skip the cheap booze, stick with known beer from a sealed can, and enjoy the beach! Maybe there will be less crowds because people are scared.

That said, I'd rather go to the Bahamas.

I nearly died three times the last time I was at an all inclusive, in Mexico. This was in 2007. They really should not put the liqueur dispenser in those rooms. I went through 8 bottles of tequila and 3 bottles of rum... And that was just what I drank in the room. I got my money's worth out of that trip. They also had all you can drink bottled water, so I was basically downing one of those when I wasn't nursing something heavier. One of the guys that was in our group disappeared every other day. He was going so hard that he literally needed a day to recover after each day of drinking. Later he said that he didn't think he drank any water the whole time he was there.

They could have gotten the BBC experience for much cheaper. Well actually they could have made money.

I can see that some of the geniuses in here are of the same mindset as the geniuses that go to the Middle East to prove that the sand people are not heathens only to end up beheaded.

Just let us know which name to look for is the dead idiot section of the paper.

Aruba is the only tropical island you're guaranteed beautiful weather always and the food is absolutely incredible. The best I've ever had at EVERY single restuarnt. It's expensive but I guarantee you will not be disappointed
