Yes or No?

I'm inclined to say yes. State department figures show this year to be no worse than others. I believe 1 story blew up and now the rest are just copy cat and or getting blown out of proportion. Just my opinion, What do you say?

Keep in mind, Bought and paid for already.
Would lose a minimum of $300 to reboog flights and go somewhere else that the airline goes to.

Don't drink the booze from the mini bar in your hotel room and you will probably be ok :D Seems like the authorities suspect bootleg liquor being used/substituted in the bottles is the cause for most of these cases....at least the anecdotal evidence seems to point to folks getting very sick after drinking booze out of their mini bars and elsewhere. Honestly I would consider another country, because the authorities have offered no real explanation and that bothers me. You would think a country that relies heavily on tourism would want to get to the bottom of these deaths ASAP.

I'd still go. Getting in a car and driving down the road is a far riskier activity than we all recognize most times. Right now, what the media is portraying is still "hit by lightning" odds, technically.

Thats the thing, All I can find is speculation from the media. No authorities have said such a thing, The embassy nor the state department has issued any warning, etc......

that seems to be the correlation though, but its just speculative...The FBI is apparently conducting toxicology tests and hopefully the results are released soon.

I am a huge fan of the sandals resorts, have been to 10 of them and have two more vacations booked. Never had any issues or worries. Not every resort is perfect, even sandals has their own cum stains on the pillow so to speak with their fiasco at the Royal Bahamian maybe last year? If you are aware of your surroundings, drink from sealed containers, everything should be fine. If the little voice in your head says that something feels wrong then pay attention to it.

No way would I personally visit DR. Too many better options. Even if the reports are blown up, there have been deaths and illnesses, and I'm not sure how much I'd trust the State Department's reports. Not sure how much I trust the media reports as well. It seems like tainted water might be an issue. Whether or not that is a real concern, if you do decide to go, I'd recommend staying away from ingesting their native water as much as possible. Just as a precaution.

They're up to at least 9 deaths at last count. That's just Americans. Is anyone counting deaths of non US citizens?

It sounds like some kind of poisoning is happening. Possibly tainted alcohol. Possibly pesticides sprayed in or around the rooms.

Me? I don't go to 3rd world countries. Hell, I'm going to Bulgaria in September for my brother's wedding. Can't say that I'm even looking forward to that.

$300 versus the risk of death...

We went a year and a half ago. Stayed at the Hard Rock. I got real sick one night. Dont know what it was from wife says I got too drunk but I've never been that bad off. I think something got in the last drink I had that night. Maybe it was just Montezumas Revenge?

Thing I didn't like was how the sugared drinks tasted. Like Coke, Gatorade, Red Bull.

I liked it better than Cancun this past fall.

About an average of 18-20 American Tourist Die there every year. Why all of a sudden it is in the news every day?
6Million a year visit. Almost half are American. That's good odds to me. lol

And yes there are great places here but none have the beaches that are in the caribbean. Not many places here are "All inclusive" either. I like not having to deal with anything once I'm there.

Tainted alcohol is a real issue throughout the Caribbean and Mexico. I am sure that is what has caused a lot of these illnesses/deaths. I'd steer clear of DR. Hell, I'd steer clear of any place down there right about now. I remember hearing the State Dept warn spring breakers last year about consuming tainted alcohol in spring break hot spots in the Caribbean. I'd bet this is the reason why the DR visitors are getting sick and dying.

I'll gladly forfeit $300 and live.

There's a TON of other places to visit in the Caribbean that you don't have to worry about getting killed in. After the last round of nonsense with the liquor, nah I'm good.

Aruba is where it's at.
