Fluid Film works very well but it’s very messy from the standpoint that it is oily. You can get the entire underside coated. What’s nice is it doesn’t wash off
FLUID FILM | Powerful Corrosion Protection & Lubrication

Have you ever used a rust converter? I know they are supposed to remove any existing rust and leave behind a dark coating. I guess it would not work on aluminum, just the iron and steel parts.

if this is a daily driver, use fluid film. You can buy a spray gun and gallons of it (never expires) to coat every year. They even make spray gun things that attach to cans if you want to just buy cans. If you spray on existing rust, it wont spread anymore.

If you have a POS chevy, the truck frames have a wax coating. The fluid film will cause all this to fall off because it(fluid film) bonds to the metal.

Fluid Film : lanolin based oily goo that self repairs.

Amsoil HD Metal Protect : Goes on wet and runny, dries to a tough waxy grease film.

I use HD Metal Protect on the outer underbody surfaces and apply Fluid Film with a neat 360 degree flexible tube to the interior underbody surfaces.

Note that you can't stop rust, but you can slow it down.

Thanks for the info, guys. I’m going to clean up the surface rust with some permatex gel, I just need to decide if I want to coat it at all. It’s not a daily driver, and it’s garaged. I just bought the car, and It doesn’t look like much attention was ever given underneath.

POR15. Messy, but bullet proof stuff.

That's the best option, all around

Another one to consider if you want absolutely top-notch is "Steel-It" paint. It is 316SS flake and crazy levels of corrosion resistance. Looks awesome too.
