In southern Colorado a lot of people came in for the cheap weed. They discovered weed isn't cheap, but heroin is. So now there are a bunch of heroin zombies wandering around.

The weather is fantastic, except for the late afternoon popup hail storms and the occasional spring sand storm which can ruin your car or your car based adventures.

**** that. it's becoming the new CA. Except you have SNOW.

Again, **** that. You are better off in Idaho or Montana. Choose a FREE state with low taxes.
You aren't wrong, and some areas of Montana are starting to be the same. The Commifornia locust are spreading everywhere and screwing up all the good places.

Where do you currently live? I grew up in Denver and moved to Michigan when I was 23 (1993). I actually have no desire to move back

Find an area of Colorado that isn't a liberal paradise.

You're not wrong. They've destroyed our housing market and politics. Arizona will be a blue state in an election cycle or two.

Essentially need to go to Western Slope, out east, or Colorado Springs on south for areas they've haven't ruined yet. Despite being largest areas, they have the least say in the states decisions.

AZ, TX, MT all awesome places slowly being ruined.

It's expensive.....it's a little more reasonable in northern Colorado Ft. Collins, Loveland, Greeley but still expensive. The whole Front Range is growing like crazy so traffic is terrible and getting worse. I personally think Colorado Springs is a dump so I would look at the metro Denver area or north. The economy is good, but our new liberal governor and legislature will probably ruin that. There are stoners everywhere and legal weed seems to have attracted a large transient population. I live in northern Colorado and there are bums everywhere and it really wasn't that way up until they legalized weed. I hate the weather here. They always talk about the 300 days of sunshine a year here which I think is BS. In the late spring/summer we get thunder storms pretty much every afternoon. My house has been trashed by hail twice in the last 5 years. I assume your a car enthusiast or you wouldn't be on this site I've had to cancel a bunch of plans due to our crappy summer weather. The mountains are nice but again it's getting crowded so not as fun as it used to be. I will probably relocate when my wife and I retire we should make a good chunk on our house which we bought at a good time.

I've been here since 1994 and have lived in metro Denver, Longmont, and Weld County during that time. It sounds silly but my wife watches "House Hunters" once in awhile on HGTV and they have had some episodes in Colorado lately. Gives you a pretty good idea of what you can buy for 4-500 thousand in the metro area.

I lived in Fort Collins roughly 3 years ago..

I wouldn’t say almost $2000 a month for a 1 bed 1 bath apartment is reasonable lol

Windsor wasn’t too bad, but it doesn’t have squat there. You pay to play especially with FoCo

Hot women, great bars, great food, scenery, live bands, events etc

Hop on Zillow or similar and check out housing costs.

We spend quite a bit of time in CO for visits with friends/vacation. I was there last week (Golden) area for a long weekend of mountain biking. There are a lot of people there, it's crazy how much it's changed over the past 5-10 years. It was hard to park at any trailhead and the amount of traffic on the trails became a nuisance.

I love to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

My dad lives in Whitefish. I noticed there are some hippies there now too but not too bad.

He has a two bed apartment in his barn. Would it be weird to move home at 40???

Denver and Boulder are more liberal than some areas in Ca., I spent quite sometime in those areas and trust me it's terrible. If your away from those areas it's probably OK. If I were you I would go to a more conservative state.

I would recommend visiting a few times in different seasons. You’ll get the gist of the people environment and costs

It's exploding now.

People are commuting over an hour each way to save money on housing. Pretty much all the towns are growing along I70 out east.

My brother works with a guy who bought a house in KS and stays with his mom M-F then heads home for the weekend to be with his wife and kids.

Yup. I know how that goes.

A lot of guys I know commute to New Mexico m-f and drive home to Dallas on the weekends.

Though a lot I know so 4 weeks on 1 week off and live in places like Louisiana

The place I live is a shit hole, when I moved here 3 years ago it was $700 a month for my apartment. That same apartment is now $1300

So, my wife and I are thinking of moving to the Denver area as her family lives somewhat close to the region. I have never been to CO, and it does look like a very beautiful area. Does anyone have any feedback for the region? How is cost of living, people, weather, etc.
OP, sounds like you should look into Flagstaff, Arizona if you want that mountain lifestyle without the extreme liberalism.
