Hi guys. I’m going to look at a 2004 mach1 this week. Yellow. Needs paint work tho. Good roof and wing sanded. Owner said was prepping for paint work. Not structural damage was just faded and peeling. It has 120k on it and said he’d take $4000. Andythjng really to look for on this? Other than rusted shock towers. And obvious engine noises. 4000 a good deal? Has normal bolt ons.
Thanks!

if the title is clean and its 4k I think I'd snag it if everything else seems up to par. There really ins't anything special to watch out for on these cars compared to any other car with 120k

Yes clear title. 4 owners. No wrecks.
I just know 96-98 cobras tend to get a bit noisey with vavletrain with higher miles. I’ll see how it goes and let you guys know.

Obvious?
How much do plan to put into it? Could you find a nice paint job half the miles for that? I bet you could.

You said obvious engine noises, little vague. I'm saying if you plan to buy it for 4 grand and throw 3 grand in paint and possible mods then look for a 8/K10K one. Pay more for less work and headache. Just how I see it...

I meant obvious by anything other than obvious stuff. Smoke, taps, knocks. Grinds in trans. Never had a Mach and didn’t know if there was any kind of common issues to look for. Not looking to throw really much into it for now. The hood, roof and trunk just need to be sprayed. So other than that I’ll just drive it until stuff goes. And build a motor on side at slow pace to not spending a lot upfront.
Thanks.

Bought my Mach 1 with a busted engine, paint issues, and a very ugly interior for 3 grand in 17. 04 Comp Orange 5spd 33k Miles and modded, some good, some disgustingly terrible. Just to give you an idea on a potential value. It’s always tricky in this situation. The car needs work and that will be a very crucial part in what someone will be willing to pay. Some might pay something for it others would pay almost nothing.
What you need to consider is, do you want to save it? I wanted to save mine, so we negotiated a price and I’m restoring her to her former glory. Another question is try to get an idea of how much it will cost to get the car fixed and if you want to do some mods? Might bring a body guy you trust and get his opinion on what it’ll take to fix the paint problems.

Pick your poison.

Seems like a good buy for a runner/driver. There was a Yellow Mach1 up here for sale recent with IIRC 95k on it, but with a hard front end hit.. and they were trying to get 4 for it.

I'd pass because it has rust and body work is a pain. Also too many miles for my liking. I'd throw more money at something cleaner.

Yes. No rust. But guy flaked on me anyway... was supposed to meet up Today and ignored my messages all day. Maybe he found someone to offer more. Ah well. My search for another car continues. Thanks all.
