The problems that drive me nuts are the "estimate" ones where they give you all of the information needed to solve the problem. Estimates are only needed when all of the information isn't available. If you have the info you can just solve for the answer.

Right? In what scenario is it better to provide an estimate if you have the information to provide an exact answer?

When you are developing a bid proposal/RFQ/RFP response for a government contract.
When trying to get more money than you need...
I apply this theory for every single RFQ/RFP/AIR that a government organization sends to me for pricing.

When you bid out work you call it an estimate because you can't account for any issues/discovery work that might come up.

Most teachers aren't too happy with it either, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law used to teach, the mil retired early and sil decided nursing was a better career path.. Our oldest daughter has managed to stay on Honor Roll all thru junior high, but she is very frustrated with this shit. She is going to be starting High school next year. However we are sending her to private school, don't want her getting short changed anymore.

I didn't even think it was legal to teach CC in TX. I know it was rejected state-wide when it was first introduced.

not at my post...

its technically not, but it's eerily similar to the core crap taught in other states...Teachers have been ringing the alarm bells for years here.

There is a reason my wife and I have decided to spend an additional 16K a year to make sure our oldest receives a proper, traditional/classic high school education. We will do the same when it comes to our youngest, fortunately we have some breathing room since she is 6 years younger.

I hope they change this shit before my two year old starts elementary school.
Pretty much. I'm already looking at Charter schools for my 3 year old. I hate to send him to a charter school but the public schools here are among the worst in the nation. There are some phenomenal college prep schools that offer top notch athletic programs and everything that charters don't but I can't afford them. I'm going as far as looking at career changes just to keep him out of AZ public schools

That's just math. Common core is an entire system of education and it's an absolute disaster. Neither the teachers nor the students like it. The only people that like it are the kids with learning disorders that it caters to.

Quick story:
I have a student who scored a 29 out of 30 on a test. They don't assign grades on the first test, instead they retest and score on improvement. She scored a 29 out of 30 on her retest and they gave her a "D". Her classmate scored a 13 out of 30 on the first test and a 22 out of 30 on the second test. He got an "A". I know she's not feeding me B.S. because this came from her mother....who is the school librarian.

Edit:
FWIW, I agree with the theory of common core grading. Rather than a child failing a test and dooming their overall grade it gives them a chance to improve. When we were kids you could boost your grade through extra credit which is absurd. Under common core you boost your grade by learning the material. As long as you show proficiency of the material in the end you get a good grade. In theory that works but in practice it's being turned into a bowl of stupidity and encouraging laziness that kids are taking advantage of. Why learn the material when you're going to show me the test fist and I can take the test a second time and study for the material I now know is coming.

This picture sums it up as best as anything. Instead of learning/practicing regular multiplication, try to cram all these concepts down a kids throat in a day or 2 and quickly move on to something else View attachment 1576630

I aced math way back, and still use it daily in my field.
My one 7 year old grandson brought some crap home that was stupid as hell. He needs help, so My wife said, ask grandpa, He’s great at math. I had zero clue what he was doing.
Do ****ing flash cards even exist anymore?
