not at my post...
Most teachers aren't too happy with it either, my mother-in-law and sister-in-law used to teach, the mil retired early and sil decided nursing was a better career path.. Our oldest daughter has managed to stay on Honor Roll all thru junior high, but she is very frustrated with this shit. She is going to be starting High school next year. However we are sending her to private school, don't want her getting short changed anymore.

I'm the parent in our house that helps with the math. Whenever I got home from work this school year and saw she had math homework on the table waiting, I had to go back out in the garage to compose myself cus i knew what the evening was going to be like.

Her school actually had a meeting part way through the year to try to help and explain things to parents because there were so many issues and frustrated parents. I didn't feel so bad when a couple of the parents that were there were the school principle and a parent that majored in math in college that were having troubles helping their kids.

I feel bad for her. She would have problems in her homework that I couldn't help her with because I literally had no clue what the hell they were asking for. Its ****ing retarded....
Did nothing but add confusion

The school my kids go to doesn't utilize Common Core and we happily pay for the lack of state funding as a result.

CC is a joke.

Until we can cure homelessness and hunger in our country this is the last way we should be teaching our kids. Lets walk before we can run. We need common sense not common core. It promotes passing a test, not independent thinking.

My daughter (5th grade) and son (3rd grade) each earned a grade of "B" in math this year. Had they been assessed on their actual math ability, they would have both earned A's. They basically survived common core.

Common core math = how many different ethnic names you can utilize in over-stated word problems.

When my daughter has to deal with this, I'll do the best I can to teach her using their methods. Then, I'll show her the right way to do it. If she gets the right answer, but it gets marked incorrect for not following their process, I'll be in the principal's office post haste.

I've been all the way through the highest levels of differential equations using the methods most people agree are correct. Furthermore, I'm lucky and excited that my daughter actually enjoys math. I'll be damned if she's gonna get confused and frustrated about how to do it so their test scores are better, and they can get more funding. School isn't for them, it's for her. It's way too important of a skill for me to let her lose her enthusiasm for the subject.

That's just math. Common core is an entire system of education and it's an absolute disaster. Neither the teachers nor the students like it. The only people that like it are the kids with learning disorders that it caters to.

Quick story:
I have a student who scored a 29 out of 30 on a test. They don't assign grades on the first test, instead they retest and score on improvement. She scored a 29 out of 30 on her retest and they gave her a "D". Her classmate scored a 13 out of 30 on the first test and a 22 out of 30 on the second test. He got an "A". I know she's not feeding me B.S. because this came from her mother....who is the school librarian.

Edit:
FWIW, I agree with the theory of common core grading. Rather than a child failing a test and dooming their overall grade it gives them a chance to improve. When we were kids you could boost your grade through extra credit which is absurd. Under common core you boost your grade by learning the material. As long as you show proficiency of the material in the end you get a good grade. In theory that works but in practice it's being turned into a bowl of stupidity and encouraging laziness that kids are taking advantage of. Why learn the material when you're going to show me the test fist and I can take the test a second time and study for the material I now know is coming.

This picture sums it up as best as anything. Instead of learning/practicing regular multiplication, try to cram all these concepts down a kids throat in a day or 2 and quickly move on to something else

Surrounded by libetards.
As a parent of a 6 and 11 year old I can say that the methods that they used to teach math are totally different than parents my age (38) and will find it confusing because we learned it in a simpler way in my opinion. Additionally, I don't recall my teachers being so openly liberal as my children's... I've had to have conversations with three of my daughter's teachers with regard to their political views being pushed on her and their commentary on President Trump.

I know very little about CC, I graduated in 92. It's a different way to go about finding the answer and the easiest way is the wrong way it seems. Maybe someone else can elaborate.
