It'll take a while, just like the Gen IV Viper.

What's the reasoning behind making the ECU a PITA to tune, even before cybersecurity became a (reasonable) excuse?
I mean, is there a chance some random C8 driver could have their car hacked while driving?

Isn't it super easy nowadays for the service dept to find out if the car was tuned if they had to look into a warranty claim?

I would take this article with a grain of salt. When the C8 is actually in tuner's hands, then you'll know. The same thing was said about the R35 GTR and Gen V Viper and now you can modify the stock PCM. The aftermarket is a lot bigger for the Corvette too so there is more financial incentive.

I believe Continental is the supplier of PCMs/ECUs/ECMs for many OEMs. The reason it is a pain to tune is to prevent people from modifying the parameters of the emissions equipment on their car and to prevent companies from stealing their intellectual property(i.e. code and design of PCM) and violating copyrights. The software and code that is on the PCM is proprietary and violating it violates the DMCA.

It would be silly for GM to actually have a performance car that you couldn't do anything with. It's not a Ferrari, people buy corvettes to make them fast as hell, and after market companies capitalize on that.

Not this one sadly as I could just imagine that a head, cam, and intake job would easily surpass $10,000 just for the work alone not including parts. GM is going to learn real quick that mid-engine is a dead end on anything involving maintenance as anything wrong with the engine and you basically need to tear the car down in order to get to the engine and then to pull it out. GM Service Dept's. are going to just love that the rates will not change and they still are told that a starter change is a 45 minute job when again you need to pull the engine to get to it.

Just ask any Ferrari 355, 360 or 430 owner on that one.

I guess they are following in Mopar's footsteps. Mopar locked there's in 2015 and up vehicle. In 2018 they put a lockout on the OBDII interface. You can buy an over ride module that goes in the trunk.

Until the car is actually officially unveiled, the vast majority of the info floating around isn’t legit. With that being said, cars a far more “techy” these days, including the software they are running. The OEM’s are becoming far more protective of their IP, especially with the move towards over the air software updates.

Hacking cars will be real threat at some point in the near future.

I think their is already a ZR1 in the 8’s because of what it enabled.

Pretty sure he meant what is the gain from only the tune in an otherwise stock car. I realize most people going to the expense of a tune are doing much more to the car, but we are still curious to know what the benefit is for the tune alone.
