From AmericanMuscle:

$2,000 S197 Mustang GT Budget Build | Stock 2006 S197 Transformation!

The video team at AmericanMuscle (AM) typically spends a lot of time on the
most-current vehicle generation when creating content so this S197 Mustang Build
will make a lot of Mustang fans out there very happy.

In this AM Mustang Build video, host Justin Dugan takes the keys to a customer’s
cherry 2006 Mustang GT to perform some modestly priced modifications before testing
it on AM’s in-house dyno and on the street. What can $2,000 in parts from AM do to a
stock S197?

Nice! I remember reading back when Car and Driver or someone took a 2005-2009 Ford Mustang GT and the budget was around $1500 or less. They basically did a drag suspension/gears/wheels and tires to click off mid-12's in an otherwise stock automatic Mustang GT.

I’d spend that 2 grand differently on my 3V GT. Mainly wheels/tires and a clutch.

That car was clean. It’s good to see them do a video like this. Hopefully some newer enthusiast will see this and realize you don’t need to have $40,000 to have fun in the hobby.

I always saw the 2v and 3v on the same playing field, am I wrong?

I skipped straight from a fox body from high school and my 20s to a coyote in 2011, but in my opinion there’s no such thing as a bad mustang. Except the mustang II. Wtf were they thinkin?

S-197 is about a million times better car than anything the 2V was in.

Clutch was never a problem? There were guys in the mid 500rwhp range with the stock clutch. I made a little under 430rwhp with a hit of spray on a heads, cams, intake 3 valve on the stock clutch. Shoot, the TR3650 was weaker than the stock clutch. Talk about a flat garbage transmission. Even my Liberty built 3650 was junk.

I've never understood the 3v hate, I had one for a while and it was a fun car. That motor should have came in the new edge GTs

My clutch isn’t happy, reason I said I’d invest in a clutch.

I just want to point out that that car isn't Vapor Silver. That wasn't even a color option in 2006. LOL

Ball busting aside, because I love me some AmericanMuscle, I've grown a new respect for the 3V platform. And not because of this video but because my mechanic/builder has a 2010 GT Roush (Stage 1) convertible. With a built motor and stock spec T56, he makes 685RWHP on 93 and 800RWHP on E85. It's powered by an On3 single kit with a Precision turbo. No it isn't a Coyote, which can safely do these numbers on stock equipment, but it's still a badass street car and relatively cheap.

My father had a 2005 3v vert for a while, same color. This makes me kinda want to pick one up for a daily.

if I had a 05/06....I'd spray it with a 125, some 373s, and slap on some DRs. Call it done.

If i could do it again....

06 GT, Roushcharger, one pcs driveshaft, Koni Yellows, Steeda Sport Springs, panhard rod, GT500 rear control arms, Brembo take-offs, GT500 wheels/tires w/ 275/40 NT01's on all 4 corners.

That would make decent power, be quite reliable and go like stink on a track for the least amount of money.

Similar result to what I have, but a different combination. My car is just o/r x pipe with the Paxton 2200 and made 480/420 on 10psi. Stock intake, stock exhaust manifolds. Also has 4.10s and a 28" drag radial. Really fun car and has been dead reliable for 2+ years now on stock clutch, rear, trans, etc. This setup could be done in today's dollars for under 20k. Not bad for almost 500whp. Coyotes, Cobras and GT500s are obviously better platforms, but for 500whp you're definitely in further $ wise at the moment. For 500whp under 20k I'd suggest a 3v all day, or 03/04 Mach 1 since it's stock engine/trans are capable of 500whp. Plenty of 3vs living at 515+whp on SBE. 550-600+ and the Coyote/Cobra is the obvious answer.
