Just wondering if anyone here has tested iat before and after having fans on the heat exchanger? I read the Department of Boost's page about the negative effects of fans, now I'm wondering if I should remove mine. The car is a 13 5.0 vmp gen 2 79mm 93 pump gas triple pass h/e with dual fans.

DOBs testing and info made a lot of sense to me regarding fans and for that reason I do not run fans on my triple pass

It did me too. I'm going to remove mine in the next couple weeks. I'm kinda shocked that more people haven't talked about this. I want to look at my iat2's before and after to see the difference.
Did you have fans and removed them or go without from the beginning?

I went without fans to begin with so cant compare the data sorry. Id be very curious to see what your findings are if you plan on comparing though. I dont drag my car so IMO fans are worthless except for staging.

I have no personal experience with them. I did install a set up on a buddies 04 with a 3.4 that was running on race gas. He said while driving there was no difference. When stopped the fans did keep it cooler.

My opinion has always been if you need to cool down in the pits between runs then the fans will help along with running the intercooler pump. For most street driving there's no need.

I haven't noticed a difference at all running mine at the track (1/4) so I don't even bother turning them on anymore. I have twin 11" Spal fans on a dual pass afco. Car is a 14' GT with VMP gen2 running 85mm pulley. I'll be removing mine soon.

For 13 years on the 03-04 Cobra (I know not the same) all testing and data agreed with DOB findings. Then some vendors marketed hard and all of a sudden they work wonders.
This right here. I'm getting frustrated with that crap. I get that people are in business to make money, but jesus christ, the hype.

On the 03/04 cobras unless you upgrade to a nation's or mechman alt. Therea no point to adding a fans. Alt cant keep up in stock forum.

But as far as proven setups. For drag racing the fans help. For road course there is no need. Just run a Gords HE and be done with it.

I decided to not remove mine. They do help significantly with cool down between passes along with running intercooler pump of course. I was running a lightweight battery before and couldn't do this.

Hey just curious on what you mean by light battery? I believe I'm having similar issues once I installed the dual fan HE on my 2013 shelby. The fans caused my car to cut power at like 4k rpm. Once I disconnected them it ran fine again. I'm thinking maybe battery or alternator? Any tips?

I put 2 fans on my heat exchanger recently (on the back of the H/E blowing into the engine bay) and didn't notice any change in my IAT2's. Gonna do a little more testing and might take them off because my initial findings are they suck (no pun intended).

You could add some strips of aluminum to box the front of the HE. This will help direct/force more air through it as opposed to following the path of least resistance and going around it along the edges.

I did this to my front mount A/A intercooler. I don't have any data to prove its effectiveness, but it makes sense that it would. While certainly not significant, every bit helps; and it's simple to do.

Ok i may try and experiment with that.

I want to redo the testing because I went out to my trunk ice tank and found my return in the tank was submerged in water. I drained about a gallon so it was no longer submerged so I'll report back with my findings next time out with the car. I think this may have been causing a restriction.

FYI my fans are on a switch in my cab.
