Hello SVT,

I tried three pumps on Saturday and each time the pump clicks off seconds within starting to fill. Tried different pressures and angles, still no dice. I’ve seen it could be anywhere from an Evap issue, to a vapor line, to a carbon canister or a sensor.

i looked around and found a few things but nothing concrete. I also saw the 07 is very different then the rest of the Shelby models so I wanted to make sure I was going in the right direction and not just throwing parts at it . I do have the 07 model FYI.

any help be great. Thanks!

Turn it upside down it will pump, it’s vapor locking or something like that every common problem with early s197 (05-09)

I believe the Focus recall was about an engine stumbling problem after a fill-up. If we're talking about the same recall, they replace the purge valve. Probably doesn't apply here.

OP -- the filling problem was actually mostly the 05-07 models. In 08, they redesigned the vapor canister and the fill tube. For the fill tube, they added an additional vent line, presumably to help with the fill issue.

I hadn't previously seen where the GT500s had the same issue, but it wouldn't surprise me - can't imagine the EVAP is any different.

Try this: At the EVAP canister (under the spare tire well), you will see several quick-connects. Disconnect the tank vent tube -- you should be able to trace it from the top/right of the tank to the quick-connect at the back of the EVAP as it exits the metal shield. If the problem is that your EVAP is stopped up, thus preventing proper venting, disconnecting that line should allow you to fill up with ease. You'll then know what you have. If that's the case, replacing the whole evap is the easiest thing (versus trying to figure out what part of it is stopped up), and they aren't too expensive.

Daughter owns a 15 St , problem was filling the tank as well as a check engine light .
Those cars have the capless fill , and pressure would build , and when inserting the nozzle , would blast air out , and also would not fill .
Covered under emissions laws i think .
I would contact the dealer , as i would not want to pay for the parts to fix the car , if federal law requires the manufacturer to cover such .
Another problem she was made aware of , is this issue may also cause the fuel tank to crack .

Just used compressed air. Something was clogged in the line. Blew it out, heard it hit the diff then was able to put gas in minutes later.

Sometimes bugs nest in the vent line. Not sure how easy it is to clear. Also, if the car is equipped with a charcoal filter that is suspect. Good luck.

Yup def leaning towards bugs nesting in here seeing the line is only like a 1/2” in diameter

So, is it a quick disconnect at the top of filler neck and the tank? Then clear tube with compressed air? where is the "vent valve"? Mine seems to be getting worse, after winter storage.

No quick disconnect at the filler tube. There are a few quick disconnects at the EVAP.

The vent valve is part of the EVAP assembly. In case there is confusion, the purge valve is up front in the engine bay.

Thanks. It is coming back to me now. Did a complete EVAP replacement on a Honda once. Replaced both the vent/shut valve and purge valve, plus canister (due to all the fasteners being rusty messes).
