Anyone have a 7700K with a 2080 Ti?

Currently have a 1070 FTW and I play Assassin's Creed odyssey mostly and cannot run 1080p at all. FPS tends to drop to about 30, so the card is not enough for the game.

Wanted to go big with the new cards and see if there would be any issues with a 7700K, other than the normal bottlenecking from time to time.

Shouldn't a 1070 run AOC just fine, especially at 1080p? Checked temps and clocks of everything?

Did some cable management for my buddy who was back in town. I wanted to puke when I saw what someone else did when they built the PC for him

@Grabber my buddy has a 8700K with a 2080ti and he runs ACO just fine.

I use the Nvidia GeForce experience and optimal settings are in the middle, where as HD is all the way right.

Running the game on optimal, I am almost always over 60 FPS, sometimes a bit more. However, when I ran max graphics, the FPS dropped to 30-35 and the game became sluggish and not smooth at all.

I did read online that the only cards that can really run this game well on 1080 or 4K are 2080 TI's.

I just purchased an EVGA Black edition 2080 Ti that I'll use with my current 7700K setup. Should be good to go after this I hope.

Nice job with the cable management. I hate to admit my builds used to be as messy as your before pic back in the day. But that was when cases were solid and nobody cared what it looked like on the inside.

Nice! How much are they going for now? I was tempted to grab a 2080 ti in December but decided the price was just too high to justify it. I am happy with my 1080 ti and don't play games anyway. Nvidia got spoiled after everyone bought their cards for crypto mining and jacked up their prices. I'm one of those - I have twenty one 1070 ti cards and one 1070 lol! Also have eighteen RX580s. They heat the home nicely in the winter time. ;)

Spent $995 for a new one. This was an entry level card and for a week I was really set on an EVGA FTW3 which would have been over $1,500. Not sure if I should upgrade the processor from a 7700k to 8800k.

Decisions decisions. Lol.

That is a LOT of video cards, holy crap.

That's a good price. All my Nvidia cards are EVGA. I also have quite a few EVGA power supplies and one Corsair for my main rig.

Here are some rig pics. I have three rigs with (13) GPUs per rig. Six 1070 ti cards on the first level, one 1070 ti + six RX580 on the second level. Each rig consumes about 1650 watts. Total Ethereum hash rate at peak was about 1320 mh/s. I have since reduced the memory speeds a little and getting a reliable 1306 mh/s now for over a year.

With these three rigs running our furnace barely came on the entire winter. Only when temps outside were close to zero fahrenheit would it come on. Our gas bill was small. Electrical bill not so much - about $600 per month.

That is a wicked setup.

What is the purpose, if you don't mind me asking of such a beastly setup?

2080 ti install went well. I was very scared at first, but, it was a cake walk, drivers updated automatically. However, the Geforce experience app would not let me optimize games, so, I had to do a little troubleshooting for a bit, but, it worked out.

All in all, it runs a lot better than my previous 1070 FTW and I can run ACO on max graphics and still get over 50-60 fps without any stuttering. Only minor lag in certain areas of the game.

Otherwise, pretty happy with the result.

How much are you making after the power bill? With the difficulty where its at I can't imagine your making much, holding on to it until the next spike im guessing?

In December 2018 I was making 1 ETH per week because the difficulty dropped. A few weeks I managed about 0.96-0.98 per week. The difficulty has increased again and I am down to about 0.8 ETH per week. Sometimes one of the rigs go down and I'll lose 2 hours or so of mining unless it goes down while I sleep. So I might make only .75 ETH per week in those cases but then my electrical usage goes down also.

With current prices the profit on paper is a little more than the cost of the electricity. But not enough to cover the cost of the hardware. I have of course not converted anything to USD. My ETH payouts goes directly to my Coinbase account. You can also mine directly to your Binance account if you prefer trading and don't want to pay the small fee to transfer from Coinbase or another wallet to Binance. I also mined ZCASH with the Nvidia cards earlier in 2018.

It is obviously a gamble and if I had used all the money spent on hardware to buy various cryptos when they were rock bottom I would have had a lot more now. I guess I like building rigs and it was an excuse to try something new, I just went crazy with all the hardware lol! Fortunately I bought the GPU cards before the prices were jacked up. I got the 1070 ti cards brand new for $469 in late 2017 and the RX580s for $289 and $350 through various purchases. I can sell the cards down the road or use them for rendering since I dabble with that also as a hobby.

Now of course if ETH ever goes back to it's high of $1350 I will realize a nice profit and also cover the cost of the hardware.

What sucks is a few years ago you could mine quite a few Ethereum's with one or two GPUs and now you need a major setup to match that because of the difficulty increase. Then again ETH was only worth a buck or two back then but the electrical cost was lower since only a few cards were required. A buddy told me 10 years ago to mine Bitcoin and I dismissed it thinking it was just a waste. Wish I had listened lol! You can't mine Bitcoin with a GPU anymore but during its infancy you could.

It is used for crypto mining but can also be used with 3D software to speed up rendering. The Nvidia cards can work with IRAY and the AMD cards with Pro Render. Just wish the AMD cards also worked with IRAY but Nvidia won't allow that. Technically they should be able to. All the cards have 8GB memory.

<geek rant> I mean, I've seen some hurried builds in my day, but that thing is a rat's nest. It probably looked even worse when the graphics card was connected to the PSU. Literally looks like the quality standard was "Passes POST, ship it!"

Take the extra 10 minutes and dress the cables.
