<sigh>

Wife took one look at the Klipsch speakers and said they were an eyesore. My reply didn’t help my cause. Lol
LOL. Sounds like my wife before I bought the KEF wall mounted speakers. You can see how"invisible" they are. She loves them! And the sounds is incredible considering how slim they are.

First, please don't go with anything consisting of a soundbar or anything Bose. Soundbars give up sound quality for aesthetics and Bose is a marketing scheme with tons of information online that will back up my post.

With $3k, you should definitely be able to put together a nice system. Klipsch reference is definitely a great choice and there are tons of places to buy them online and many have discounts if you buy all the components at once. As far as receivers go, I'd go with something in the $500 range. You can get Dolby Atmos, wifi, bluetooth, etc with decent processors/amps for that price. As far as subs go, if you're handy, there are kits from partsexpress.com that will outperform anything commercial dollar for dollar, but you have to build them. A Klipsch component setup, partsexpress sub, and a receiver from any of the big names with modern features will be more than enough to enjoy movies at home.

Here is my setup in my living room-

Samsung 75"
Pioneer Elite SC-LX701 Receiver
Martin Logan Expression 13A floor speakers, powered by Peachtree Nova300 amp
18" Parts Express Ultimax Sub, powered by iNuke 3000 watt amp
Klipsch RP-450C Center
Klipsch RP-250S Side surrounds
Klipsch RS-35 Rear surrounds

Lol you have a $2000 amp to run your ML and you tell him to get a $500 receiver to run his speakers. I agree with no sound bar but playbar is quite a bit different. Love ML speakers however there is a small sweet spot and they are more of a music speaker. I have reference speakers for my theater room however they are not close to the best. For the money not sure what he could beat with the Sonos setup for 5.1. Love your towers as I do want some ML Electra stats with their motion X center.

Yeah I say a $500 receiver because something like a Denon AVR-X2500H has everything he needs, and probably a lot more- the latest HDMI compatibility, all the latest Dolby processing, smart home compatibility, room EQ, etc. I think he should spend the bulk of the money on speaker components.

The idea that MLs are only good for music is a myth. These things are amazing with home theater as well, but you probably can't truly appreciate them unless you hear them powered by a nice amp and a very "musical" track. You can hear the tiniest symbol crashes and the sound stage, depth, etc. is just awesome. Andrea Bocelli in my living room is better than when I saw him in person.

You know the saying: no highs, no lows, just Bose.

Nice setup you have, I bet it sounds great! I've got a dedicated 2.2 stereo and smile every time I put on tunes to relax.

Thank God I just plugged the 4 wall mounted speakers that were in the house when we bought it, and a new center speaker, into a new receiver.

No idea what they are. No idea if they’re good. But even without a sub, it works for my wife and kids.

The last thing I need is more stuff to spend thousands of dollars on.

I have what I consider a decent system, but like most things, I’ve stopped short of going full retard. In 1989, I purchased a set in Infinity RS1Bs. They came in boxes the size of full sized refrigerators, and I had to borrow amplifiers to drive them.
