Do you like vacationing on cruise ships?

I just unpacked from a five day Carnival cruise and I’m reflecting on it. We left out of Jacksonville, Florida and went to Half Moon Cay and Nassau. It was my fourth or fifth cruise. I’m not a big fan of them and went because my wife pushed me to go. My biggest gripes are that I feel like I’m on a floating prison, the time at ports are too short and they’ve found every angle to extract more money from you. Things that are good is the food and hospitality. What are your thoughts on cruises?

HELL to the NO!

Pick any capital of any country (at least 90% of countries) and that's the vacation I want, exploring a new city, unknown language, unique customs, etc. I have a flight voucher for SW I have to use this year and I'm a little pissed that the most adventurous place I can fly is Hawaii. I'll have fun, but if SW flew to Peru for example, I would have more fun.

I don't mind them.

The only thing I dislike from the usual Caribbean ones is that all the islands are all the same.
I guess living next to a beach every day makes going to the islands a tad redundant. And some islands have some annoying sales people begging you to come into their store.

That being said, I like being on a vacation where the phone is useless and I can truly disconnect from work/life.
Clients/boss/contractors can't reach me lol.

Prefer Royal Caribbean bigger ships(Oasis class) where they have enough free shit on board to keep you occupied.
Get the balcony view so some days we just sit out there and chill and stare off into the ocean.
Shows are decent and so is the food.
And the people on there are aren't as trashy.

My sister has been a few cruises and loves them. My parents took their first cruise last year, loved it, and have done two more since then. They also deal with crowds infinitely better than I do, and recommended that I avoid cruises for that reason.

The only reason that a cruise even seemed remotely feasible to me is that I loathe travel. Leaving my house/yard is enough of a chore, unless it's someplace familiar. I figure a cruise is like a moving hotel room, so I'd at least have a place to escape to if I encounter too many idiots. Always wanted to see clear water, never had a chance to because travel stresses me out so much.

My wife and I went on a cruise (our first) last June. It was fun, but I doubt we'd do another one. WAY too crowed resulting in long lines for restaurants, searching forever to find a table to sit at the buffet area, long lines for attractions, crowed pool area, and as already noted, insufficient time in port. I'm glad we got to do one, but I'm just not a fan. I'd rather spend my money on a more relaxed vacation. This June we're going to spend a week up in Boothbay Harbor, ME. One of our favorite vacation spots.

I have been on one, which I really enjoyed. There were 30 or so slots for a Gracie Jiu Jitsu group, and we did 6 hours on the mats each day we were at sea. The dinners were a blast, as we had a great group at our table.

As much as I enjoyed that, I am not interested in a regular cruise in the least, for all the reasons already posted.

Its pretty funny that I have been to more NYC Bon Voyage parties than most in the days when you were allowed to board the departing ships but I have never been on a cruise and don't know if I ever will. Parents, Wife's parents, brother, cousins and friends have been on tons of cruises all around the world and loved them. None so far for the Wife and I.

I love them. Wife and I are doing my 4th and her 2nd next year. I enjoy the fact that I have no responsibility on the boat and only have to decide ‘do I want a drink with that’.

After 20 years at/under the sea, I still have to warm up to the idea. I’d consider an Alaskan Cruise I suppose. The old lady is all for it.

The begging in Nassau was awful. I noticed that there were more trashy people on the cruise than before. My wife and I were trying to enjoy our dinner in the nice dining room and, a person at the table behind us was on the phone yelling and cursing for about five minutes straight. I’m guessing they paid extra for ship WiFi so they could just curse at each other. Also, the amount of extremely large people wearing inappropriately small clothing was mind-blowing.

I've never been on one. With that said, I can't stand being on someone else's schedule, so the chances of me going on one is pretty much zero.

I'm pretty sure my first day would go something like this: "I have to be back at port when? **** you, this is MY vacation, I'll get back when I feel like it. Crap, where'd the boat go?"

Anyone see the TV commercial for Norwegian Cruise Lines? LOL! It starts out showing a couple in a Jacuzzi with nobody near them. Just empty chairs. Then bumper cars, again, with barely any people. The real laugher is another pool shot with a couple floating in a pool with nobody there except them. Just the two of them floating with 14 empty chaise lounges, 4 empty canopy swings, and two empty hot tubs. They try to make you believe the ship is not crowded and you'll be free to do pretty much anything you want to do, when you want to do it. In reality, it will be filled to capacity. Meaning you have to fight (or at least plan) for space at the pool, bumper cars, dining, etc.

Here you go. For the veteran cruise folks to chuckle over.

Some of the boats have high end private areas (pools open spaces etc). While you might not be alone, be better than being in "general population".

We have not done one in a couple decades. However I could see a European river cruise being enjoyable.
