If you were in the market for a new home stereo / theatre system (minus the TV) and had a $2-3k budget, what would you buy?

Thanks man. I need everything and was thinking more along the lines of a component system.

Not a sound bar that's for sure. They're nice but if you have the room nothing beats properly set up floor speakers. The possibilities are endless depending on what your ears prefer. Even something simple like a Yamaha receiver and some Klipsch reference towers set up right will blow the doors off any sound bar or boxed system. Tune and set it up properly will destroy a high end system that is hobbled together and will make .

If you're not in a hurry scour Slickdeals around the time of the year new receivers are released. I really like what Yamaha does with theirs and you can get them for next to nothing before a new model release. Speakers go on sale all the time but there are often amazing deals on Craigslist, offerup, etc from bachelors getting married and their wives make them ditch them for smaller, shittier setups like Bose. For instance, there's a pair of $3,400 Martin Logan electrostatic speakers on Craigslist right now for $700. You can source a killer system for next to nothing used if you take your time looking.

I get what your saying Blown69 and I agree. I've done the bigger is better systems but I guess in my older age I have went to the smaller foot print systems. Like owning Bose Sound Touch 10's and a 30 that can link up and play off my phone Pandora, Spotify or whatever I want. I often think about doing up a newer system but then I would rather spend money on my house or vehicle stereos.

Paradigm speakers (Klipsch is a good consideration also), Marantz or Sony receiver.

What size room, and are you wanting standard stereo, or a 5.1, 7.1, or Dolby Atmos style setup?

Sent from my [mind] using the svtperformance.com mobile app

It’s an open floor plan, but the “room” is 14’ wide. The sofa is 15’ from the TV / speakers and there’s a 12’ deep breakfast nook behind the sofa. Then a bar/ half wall and the kitchen.

I’m thinking 5.1, but would like to hear your thoughts.

Thanks man! I’ll check those places out. What time of year are the new models released?

This is for my house.

$2-3k won't buy you too much if it includes speakers, amps, received etc.

How about some Marantz gear and Klipsch speakers?

Personally, I run old school Carver gear.

I agree, and a $10k+ system would be wasted in this space. Most of the left wall is sliding glass doors and the floor is ceramic tile.

Thanks! Klipsch is a brand that keeps coming up but I’ll check out Paradigm too.

If you were within driving distance, I'd offer you my Klipsch Quintet speaker system with stands really dirt cheap. Klipsch makes some nice sounds home theater speakers.

You don't have to spend a lot of money for decent sounding speakers.

I want to say around February or March is when the big tech conventions are.

Something to think about....if you want to go 5.1 don't settle for a 5.1 receiver as there are options like biamping speakers with the unused channels. Also, when you run wiring....don't go to Best Buy and buy cheap thin gauge wiring. Get a larger gauge and if it's going inside walls make sure it's UL rated.

Mighty nice of you, thanks. I would have probably taken them off your hands. :)

I just bought a wireless sound bar. Cheap, effective, works awesome. Sits right next to my TV and it is LOUD. Many brands to choose from.

For years my wife and I wanted a home theater speaker system that was not noticeable. Just a personal preference. We always had black or wood cased speakers either on stands, mounted on the walls, or free standing. It took a long time and an open wallet to finally find what we were looking for. I ended up buying a 5-speaker KEF system. They're a very light gray and when mounted on the walls they literally are not noticeable, even though they're about 24" high. Being slim helped.

You have a lot of speaker choices, so be sure you get what you really want. Consider sound, style, size and color. Not sound alone. JMO.

Klipsch all the way! Best Buy 50% off sales make it almost doable. 7.1 here, but bought the SVS Sledge for the primary sub.

Months back, the wife and I jumped out of bed, when the boys had a movie on. The oldest maxed it out, it sounded like Armageddon!
