Hello all i just purchased a 13 gt500 with a spec ss clutch. I have been driving manual all life and have had plenty of manual stangs. But driving this car is not fun. Well at least taking off is not fun. The clutch just feels like a on and off switch. And the high pedal engagement doesn't help none. There is no slipping the clutch. Taking off i'm getting a lot of chatter or bucking. Other manuals i'v driven never felt like this one. my whipped 09 gt500 felt great and i dailyed it. This one i feel like i have to give it way to much throttle to take off without the chatter or bucking. the car makes 686rwhp and 710tq. The local shop told me this is just how the spec ss clutches are. (on/off switches). Is there something i can do to make it more enjoyable or more light to light enjoyable. Do i need to swap to a different clutch? Can i go back to stock and sell this one, would it hold the power? This car is just a fun street cruiser to me. So i don't need no big super serious clutch. Just want to drive and enjoy it and not look like a ass or a rookie taking off from a light. So far i'v owned the car for about 2 weeks and have stalled about 5 times taking off and 1 time in reverse. Looking to do something asap. Other then this i love everything about the car.

Stock set up will hold the power just fine. I have the stock system and no problems at all. My guess is you have the upper pully, twin TB, tune and long tubes?

Replace it with the stock clutch. I have driven mine 22k miles and it is still going strong. At one time my car made about the same hp/tq as your does now. The SPEC SS is rebuildable, so you should be able to sell it and get some money back that way.

2.4 upper pulley, oval tb, tune, CAI, corsa sport axle back and offroad xpipe. Want to do longtubes and catted h-pipe when i get this clutch thing done. How is the stock set up on taking off? Lined up with a hellcat today at a light and just bogged it. Was looking silly. I be looking like i'm just learning stick in this car with this spec clutch. Clutches are to expensive to just be trying them all out. I think i seen a stock clutch for like $400.

First, is the stock pedal assist spring in?
If so, take it out. Seriously.
It could be that easy. I noticed it but adapted to it with the stock clutch. It made the Spec undrivable.
Second, if the spring has already been removed, I’d want to know the mileage on the Spec and who did the install.
If there’s no chance the shop or previous owner dropped the ball, it may need to be broken in, so take it out and drive the pants off it hard for a few days. Let it cool with easy driving before beatings.
Last, does it have stock sh!t gears?
If so, do yourself the biggest favor and swap the junk 3.31s for 4.10s and DRs.
Money back guarantee you don’t love them, seriously.

the spring is removed already. i'm not sure on the mileage of the spec. and it has 3.31 gears still. I'v probably put about 2000 miles on it since owning it. I just ordered a stock 13 clutch since it was kinda cheap. The only other mod i plan on doing is longtubes so i'm good on power. Hopefully putting a stock clutch back in solves all. Stalling in a car like this or reving like crazy just to move forward a little is crazy. Weather is getting super nice i just wanna do some cruising. Can i use the flywheel thats in there when i put a stock clutch back in there?

If it were me I would have one on hand incase you need it during install. The engine has HP mods and a clutch that is meant for racing, so I would assume it has been down the drag strip and we all know that isn't easy on clutches or flywheels. You should also replace the slave throw out bearing thing too as long as you are in there.

The gearing is so tall in first that it is like starting out in 2nd gear in most other cars. But as biminiLX mentioned, gears are the answer. I currently have 3.73s and I am putting in 4.10s. The car is much much easier to drive and the fun factor jumps considerably with gears and some sticky tires.

Just came from the shop. They were saying the clutch acts like all the specs they have seen. It was chattering with them also. They use Mcleod on most of there stuff. But i have a stock clutch on the way. I still gotta order a slave cylinder and braided clutch line. 3.73 will be put on the list to do after the longtubes.
