Question for those with new Ford vehicles:

Background: leased a 2019 Edge with the standard Pre-Collision Assist with automatic emergency braking. Ensured it is enabled with high sensitivity.
Read the manual, watched the videos on operation.
On the freeway within 30 feet of car in front of me no warnings. Pedestrians cross in front of car while starting on green light, no warning. Roll up to stop sign at 5 mph get within 10' of stopped car, no warning.

Dealer technician claims nothing wrong with system. Ford owner support can't help, talk to dealer or take it to a different dealer.

Who has this enabled and at what distances does the warning flash if at all?

IDK about Fords but can you set the distance? You can on Hondas in the form of close/medium/far.

Can't set distance, can set sensitivity to low medium or high. I've set it at high. Tech claims distance is proprietary and can't reveal. Just want to know others experience as I'm convinced it doesn't work.

Per Ford's website:

"*Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) can detect pedestrians, but not in all conditions, and does not replace safe driving. See your owner’s manual for system limitations."

Also, from what I've seen driving other cars with the emergency braking, 5mph isn't going to activate it as you approach another car while decelerating as the car knows you're stopping.

God forbid this becomes standard on Mustangs.

Can't help ya on the Fords but...

I've seen how Jeep's pre collision warning system is and I'm not a fan. Wildly inconsistent in terms of depth.
Nothing like the truck slamming the brakes for a car braking a good distance in front of you and you know they'll clear the right turn at the intersection before you get there. Swear the person behind me thought I tried to brake check them.

I know the Jeep at low speeds, like 5mph will slam the brakes if you get too close to a curb/person/ants.

Best bet is to take a ride with a tech and see what happens. If they say it works then they have to prove it.

I had a BMW X3 as a loaner and it SLAMMED on the brakes in a scenario where the light turned green and everyone was just proceeding off under normal acceleration. A car was in front of me, but I wasn't closing in on them or even close to them. The person behind me was throwing their hands up and beeped their horn wondering why the hell I seemingly brake checked them. It would be interesting to see how many accidents they've caused vs how many they've prevented.

I have it in my Ram. Turned it off. I have eyes and a right foot. I don't need the stupid computer in my cars telling me when to stop. I turned off the rear automatic brakes too. It wouldn't let me parallel park.

My 2013 XTS has pre-collision warning (HUD shows a pic of a collision in orange and my seat vibrates. It actually works great. Save me a few times while messing with the radio. My car doesn't have auto-braking though.

I would have to say that there must be an issue with yours. Maybe try a different dealer?

I know with the Toyotas the system has to see a drastic change in speed and closing distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. Otherwise it knows that you are slowing down in other cases.

Our Explorer has had similar results. At times you feel like it should come on, it doesn’t. Other times, works as it should. More often than not, it goes off when you’re no where near the car in front of you.

Least of my worries now. Found an oily residue on the driveway this morning. Technician confirmed the leak is from the PDU. Only 600 miles.

I have this in my Touareg. I turned that suicide mission off. As others have said, I'd rather be in control. When the system was engaged there were too many random full-on emergency brake applications for situations that didn't warrant them. I felt the system was too dodgy and unreliable.
