I love my steam shower. Don’t think I’d live in a house without one at this point. That, and heated bathroom floors.

Keep in mind when buying faucets/etc, it does you no good to buy shit that is guaranteed forever. Fixtures get changed every 15-20 years because they go out of style.
Steam shower, hmmm. Floor will already be heated.

I just got the quote back for roller shades in 5 areas. Cha-CHING!
Buy once, cry once. LOL

Anyways, some roller shades out there are worth the money and some are not. We do sell a ton of roller shades. If you have any questions, let me know. I personally recommend Altex, it's the only roller shade I'll sell because we hardly ever have problems.

Roller shades. I assume those can be automated to open and close with the push of a button?

Yeah button, switch, phone. They can be programmed to open with the sun rising, programmed for anytime really. If this is something you want, I would get quotes now. You could pre-run 24V wire and Cat 5-Cat 6 cable for the shades to do home automation.

I love the idea of automation in my house, however, we live in the middle of 35 heavily forested acres and the wife says we are not putting anything on the windows. Guess I'm out voted.

Just an update on progress. Siding is on and doing the wainscoting.

Next up, plumbing and electrical.

When we built 3 years ago, we spray foamed all exterior walls, above the ceiling and under the roof. Cost us about $8k but well worth it. We also did a metal roof which nearly cut our home insurance in half.

We plan on spray insulation on the ceiling and either bats or bibs in the walls. With spray insulation, we don't have to vent the roof so it saves some money there.

Here's the deal. We bought 35 acres of heavily wooded land here in western Washington. We are planning on building a BarnPros structure
Coach House - Rv Garage Kit - Barn Pros

We chose this structure because I'll be able to park our 5th wheel inside, have a big shop and have plenty of living space for the wife and I.

We'll be adding shed roofs to both sides and enclosing them. The big question is: What cool things have you seen or done to a home that you would include? I'm asking about everything from automation and security to furniture and appliances. Trim, cabinets, counters etc. Since it has 25 stairs to get upstairs, we'll be installing a dumbwaiter.

Hopefully we can start construction in late May/early June if our illustrious county will let us build.

Thanks for any ideas, sources and links that might help.

A really loooong driveway and smack the house in the middle of the acreage and have complete privacy. Also, a large pond stocked with fish. A separate car port with a drain and plumbing for washing vehicles.

Right on target. Driveway is about 800' to the house. Funny you mention a pond. We have so much ground water runoff that I told my wife I was going to dig a pond and stock it with fish. I have an exposed berm in the back from the initial excavation. There is a constant stream coming from the runoff of that.

We have 40 acres and just paved our quarter mile long driveway...that hurt lol.

Here's part of it, it does an S turn once it gets into the woods there out towards the road. Notice the size of the parking pad, that's a 30' X 40' garage just for scale size. They just prepped and paved, the pad was already that big and the deiveway already had a good gravel base. All in at $17K.

This seems pretty basic but if your impatient and can't wait for hot water at distant fixtures, have a properly sized recirc line run installed.
