Haven’t had much time to work on the car, but I bought some new wheels. I’ve been looking for a chrome or polished wheel to contrast the dark paint. I like the traditional 5 spoke wheel but wanted something different than the typical options; Cobra R, Saleen, etc.

The fitment seems good. Cannot wait to get them mounted. I have an ABS warning light because the diameter of my front and rear wheels are not the same so I’m debating if I buy new front tires or just deal with the light. The front and rear tires are practically brand new. Trying sell the front tires with my old wheels to offset the cost of new tires.

Chrome will set that Mystic off superbly.

Which brand wheels are those? They kind of look like a Boyd Coddington wheel.

Bought a poor mans big brake kit a few years ago.

S197 calipers, 14” GT500 rotors, pads and FTR brackets.

Unfortunately the caliper was about 1/4” too low. The caliper bracket wouldn’t clear the rotor. Opened the bracket holes a bit. It allowed me to get the bracket on but it still sat on the rotor. View attachment 1552657

Cool in theory but wouldn’t work. Not sure if I got a bad batch.

Depending on the year, there are 2 different S197 caliper/pad brackets. The V6 bracket was shorter in height than the GT bracket. Looks like you have the V6 one.

YOU ARE THE MAN!!! It was the bracket causing the clearance issue. Couldn’t find the bracket alone so I bought a whole setup for $80; calipers, brackets, pads and rotors. Now I have to sell off the stuff I don’t need, but I’m pumped it works and the new wheels clear.

Mocked up with new wheels. Time to paint the calipers

Everything is installed. Need to bleed the brakes. I had to put the right caliper on the left side of the car vice versa because the brake lines attach in a different location than the stock calipers. The MM SS brake lines aren’t long enough. Shouldn’t be an issue. Can’t wait to break in and test the new setup.

As long as the bleeder screw on the caliper is at the highest position, you should be ok.

You’re right again! I wasn’t even looking at that. Going to see if I can get some longer brake lines...

You might have to bend/reposition the body tab (that holds the hard line/brake hose) if the brake hose seems short, to give the hose the extra clearance.

With the calipers in their correct orientation, and the wheels are off, have someone do full steering sweeps and look at how the hose moves along.

I had some brake lines made that are longer to provide some clearance. The photo shows the Cobra SS line, new lines, and OEM S197 line

I only brought one MM SS brake line to have the new ones made. They looked perfect. Went to install the passenger side line last night and the male connector on the hard line was slipping right inside the new line as if the female connector on the SS line was too big.

It was a long day and I figured I overlooked something at the hose store so I called it a night. Before I wrapped up I looked at the MM line that came off the passenger side to confirm it was smaller.

Threw the new lines back in the box with the line I brought to the store and went to bed. On my way home from work I stopped at the hose store to correct the issue. Kid at the counter looks me like I’m an idiot... because it was the same!

I get home and look at both lines and discover the passenger and drive side are different

Well shit... ever other time I’ve changed lines I purchased premade lines. I must’ve been lucky and grabbed the correct size for each side because it never realized they were different.

After many hours and multiple days, the brakes are done. Tires mounted and the new wheels don't work with the larger brakes. I didn't have the brake pads installed during mock up. The pads raised the caliper just enough to cause an issue :curses:
