hey guys ....today I discovered my "tracKey" (2014 mustang), I have never used it before because I thought both keys were the same. Fake cam lope sounds ****ing sweet. I am very impressed. Problem is, I have 373s and the speedo is 5mph off (reading fast). Apparently Ford IDS cannot read my computer . SCT cannot read my computer. Essenially it is locked. SO....is there any way to fix the speedo ?

Try reading the ecu with a battery tender plugged in. You can also disconnect battery and unplug the ecu, the connector is by passenger headlight. The s197s could be real temperamental with battery voltages. I have had my fair share of issues while changing tunes etc. You can always ask SCT for stock tune file, they may be able to provide you with one to try.

problem is, SCT told me to take it to the dealer, for a flash. Dealer told me they cannot read it with IDS. It looks like they tested the battery and it is good.

Oh shit, that’s weird. Corrupt ECU? FWIW I thought I bricked my ECU while changing a tune, the flash failed and I couldn’t do shit after that. I disconnect the ECU and battery, waited 30 mins and hooked it all back up, put the car on a charger. I was then able to load the stock tune file at that point, then my tune.

I don't see why but it appears the current tune is preventing the connection with ford IDS. That's what the dealer said anyway. They told me it wouldn't connect. They could not reflash. I kina like the performance key LOL. I just need to change the speedo somehow.

FWIW those steps I mentioned, I got from AED. May not work in your case, but worth a shot. Have you tried with regular key, though honestly don’t know if that matters. The speedo can only be adjusted via parameters in the tune file.

can I use these little gears ??

No, those speedo gears won’t work on newer mustangs like a S197. They were mechanically driven by the transmission and connected to a speedometer cable in older mustangs SN95 and older. Nowadays thats done by a sensor in the transmission that sends data to the ecu.

At what speed is it off 5mph, or what gear does the computer think it has? (The gear ratio before going 3.73's)

You're speedometer isn't off 5mph everywhere, it is a percentage. So the faster you are going, the more the mph will be off.

You probably don’t have power at the obd port thats why its not talking. They cant lock a scan tool out with a tune.
If the car is running and driving and has no com with the tool check power and grounds at the pcm and check the can lines for activity

I use this tool all the time

You also have launch control and pit lane limiter with trackkey.
It came with a Ford Procal tuner when I bought it new ($302), and an update from Ford via SD card a week after I got it. I think it would let you make the adjustments to gearing. It had several functions, even like relearning the Crank position.
Just remember if you get an aftermarket tune from the SCT or anyone, the key just becomes another key. You get the warning for track key but no tuning change and the launch control and pit lane limiter stop working.
I've found the old instructions for how to use track key, and I've attached them.

Not the way I'd prefer to fix it, but you could go to a slightly taller tire out back. What size are you running out back?

some calculators to play with

Tire Height Calculator

Calculate GEAR, RPM, MPH, TIRE DIAMETER

Only has 5 spd avail, but you could plug in MT82 ratios for shits and grins, except for 6th.

Mustangtek differential and transmission gear ratio calculator

right now I have a 40 sidewall. Thinking about bumping to a 50. That should drop the speedo 3-4 mph right ?

what size wheel? Yeah a 50 sidewall would get you very close. That site with the tire height calculator is pretty fun to play with, they have a speedo calc too.

Speedometer Calibration

right now all around I have 255/40-19. Would a 50 look ok ? Actually My rear wheel gap is bigger so that would make the front and the rear even since it's lowered. If it's off 2 mph I would be ok with that but 5-6 is gonna rack up the mileage lol.

you can go a little wider too, that will make the tire a little taller. A 50 series sidewall will look a little funky, IMHO. A 275/45/19 would get you really close, like within 1mph. Play with that calculator and sizes

I think I'm going the tire route since the trac key handheld is $ 500 lol.
