I’m looking at a 13/14 GT500 purchase, what’s the preference out there for seats? Standard or Optional Recaro? I’ve seen positive and negative comments for both. Thanks

Would not have bought my 13 without Recaro's, it was a must have. Unless your a real big guy, the seat is very comfortable. Side bolsters keep you in the seat, feels like your in a race car when seated. Accent stripes add to the appearance of the outside stripes if you have them as well. Unless you need to have a power seat, which can be added, it was a no brainer for me.

When Mopar/Chebby/Euro/Italia guys check out my car, the most common type of comments are "Oh I love the Recaros and the Brembos...". The nice non-Ford equipment gets plenty of love from outsiders...even if they hate the car because it is a Mustang. Not that those opinions really matter, but it is a nice option.

Recaro's!! Love the way they just hold you in the correct position for higher G corners, etc. Hell anything.
Well, almost anything!!

I didn’t like the feel of the Recaros because I’m wide in the hips and back area and am taller than the average guy. I also wanted a seat that I could ride several hundred miles at a time in and be comfortable.
Been in Recaros in the 13-14 cars quite a bit, and while they offer good support, they’re not my cup of tea.
The base heated seats fit the bill for what I wanted the most.

How wide is your butt? That's the determining factor.
My '12 had standard seats. They felt like a couch compared to the recaros in my '13

Agree with what others have said - Recaros FTW, as long as you're not too wide for them.

On an unrelated note...

I can wrap my head around their Recaro comments and the FRONT Brembos are nice. As much as I like my car and front brakes do most of the work, I hate the fact that Ford put V6 brakes on the rear of our cars and offered the fronts only in black. Mopar/Chebby/Euro/Italia guys have had better (rear) brakes and color options for years!

lol...agreed. The rear calipers are cringeworthy.

Good thing about the recaros is fixability- I had my height lever break off. Got a new one for 20$ and three screws later I’m good as new. I’ve had a few sport power seats go out on me and I’m done with it.

Here are some facts for the difference between the two.

Recaros are manual seats and they offer a lot of lateral support. Shoulder harness slots are cool.

Base Seats offer a 4-way power Driver's Side but Passenger stays manual. Headrest is adjustable. In 13 the base seat had optional heated seats. In 14 all base seats are heated.

Both recline. Both offered stripes matched to the car's stripe color.

For me, I wanted the comfort of the base seats, power driver and bun warmer for my back. They are very comfortable on trips and easy to get in and out of. The Recaros have more pronounced side bolsters. For me the bolsters were more than I wanted and I didn't care for climbing over the "nut killer" bolster on the lower seat. I also figured the side bolster would end up showing wear from getting in and out.

I did base and am happy with my choice.

In summary if you’re fat don’t get the Recaro's.
The previous owner (friend) was a heavier gentleman and there’s definitely some wearing on the bolster- in fact it’s the only interior area that shows wear for bieng DD to 60,000 miles. So something to think about it does wear.

Went to a car show with a '12, '13 Shelby and a '13 Boss parked side by side when I was shopping.
All 3 sat differently.
Boss, fabric little flexibility in the thigh bolstering.
And the '12s and '13's are not the same material construction. '12 is full leather while the '13 had the suede in the bolstering.
Just my observations.
Guess I'm fat cause my choice is the buckets. They sit like my '08 F150 seats.

way off topic, bought a '14 Fusion Titanium. Ain't even made my first payment and I'm ready to chuck the car cause the seats are fkn horrible. To narrow and the bolstering is designed for my 110# wife
