Any of you deal with a rocking/loose driver seat?

I’ve got ~26K on my 04 and over the past year it’s developed a lot of movement/play in the seat bottom. This causes the entire seat to rock.

From what I can tell the movement is coming from where the track on the seat bottom attaches to the rail that attaches to the car. The rail is solidly mounted to the car.

Curious if anyone has dealt with this so I can narrow down the fix?

I had this issue with my 01. It would move side to side when I turned. I tightened up the bolts and it was fine for a while. The second time it loosened up I used Loctite and it was good after that.

What bolts? Does the bottom half of the seat track attach to the upper rail with bolts? I can’t see if there are even bolts to tighten where is see the play/movement.

I believe that bolt is just a stud , I put nuts underneath to tighten it more

Sorry to bring up an older thread, but after seeing this it reminded me mine rocks pretty good, I finally took a little time to look at my seat.

I made a little picture in MS paint from a cobra seat frame I found online showing what bolts were loose on my seat. I just took out the seat bolts and rocked the seat back and that gave plenty of room to inspect and access the bolts. The seat mounting bolts are 15mm. The seat adjuster rod bolt was 10mm. The bolts on the side were 12mm IIRC. On my seat the link 10mm bolt was quite loose along with the forward 12mm bolt on the side. The rear side bolt was tight. The seat feels so much better now!!!!

I’ll take my seat apart this weekend and try this. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to discuss how you fixed yours.

Dude this is great. My seat rocks a decent amount also. 30k on the car. I gotta get in there and do this.

No problem guys! SLOWBRA, thanks for creating the thread cause it gave me some hope it might be a simple fix. My car has 42k miles, and has had this seat play since 2009 and 30k miles. Can't believe I've waited this long to look at it haha!

This weekend I took the seat out and tried your suggestion. The bolts you referenced in your pictures were not loose, but I tightened them anyway. Unfortunately, it didn’t help mine. The moment is definitely coming the tracks. Perhaps I need to find a new track!

Sorry to hear that! I was really hoping that would fix yours too!

Me too! I don’t have experience with seat tracks to know where the movement is coming from. If I can find a new track I’ll just go that route. If not I’ll have to take the seat out and,m mount it on some wood to see where the movement is coming from.

Yeah I hear ya, I do this type of work all the time as an electrical/trim technician at a GM dealer. But regardless, it is a real pain to see under the seat on this car while it's in the car, and damn near impossible to see movement when its not hard mounted.

Now that I know that I’ll message you with a video - if and when I do it again.

Sounds good! Let me know!

With the weather getting better the car will finally come out of the garage so I’ll tackle this seat problem for a second time shortly. Definitely want to resolve it.

I took a look at mine closely with the seat out of the car. It seems to be coming from minute play in the arms that raise and lower the seat. Tightening up the nuts did not help for me ether as the play in mine seems to come from the pivots. Its not a lot of movement in the pivots but it translates to a good amount of play at the seat. Been considering just getting a set of Cobra Suzuka seats and be done with it.

That is what I noticed on mine as well. Small movements everywhere translated to more later. Wonder if a manual seat track would solve it? I hardly ever move the seat.
