Hey guys,

I got my weld wheels in and now I’m hunting a good set of tires. I don’t want a bias ply because it will get driven on the street more than on the track with my drag setup. I’m thinking I may go with the ET street R but I have no idea what size will fit under my car. I have a weld S70b 15x10 for the rear and want a fat tire but I don’t want rubbing issues either. Should I go with a 295/55/15? Or could I shove a 325/50/15 under there? The car is a 14 GT500 and hasn’t been lowered.

Thanks In advance!
Jay

I just picked up a 12 GT500 over the weekend and it has Nittos on it that have less than 1,000 miles on them and I’m ordering Mickey Thompson DR’s tomorrow or Friday once I find the best price.

Discount tire actually had a pretty good price on a pair of 275/55/15’s. Just wanting a fatter tire but don’t know if it will fit.

Same as "sleek98". I just bought a set of M/T ET Street SS P295/55R/15 at Summit $203.99 ea. I was impressed the way they hold the car with 775 rwhp.

I also run 295/50/15 Mickey Thompson SS radials on 15" forgestars. I originally was just going to switch from my street wheels and tires to the drag radials when I wanted to play on the streets. After driving them on the street I got addicted to actually having traction for once and haven't taken them off since. Mine isn't a daily but its nice being able to put the 800rwhp I make to the ground whenever I want to and they have great street manners no where near as sketchy as bias ply. Just don't get caught in heavy rain with them.

I am running a 295-65/r15 et street r and it fits the rear of my 07 perfectly. I do have a set of dead hooker rear springs from revan racing and they have the ride height adjuster on them and they are lowered as low as they will go. No rubbing at all yet

Thanks for all the input guys! I wish the 295/55 size had more options for tire choice. I’ve heard mixed reviews about the MT SS. I’m tempted to go with the 275/60 pro. It’s not the width I was wanting but I hear that tie is by far the best hooking tire available. I see the Hoosier has a 295/55/15 drag radial, do they make that in a stiff sidewall?

Jay, If your looking for a Street / Strip tire the M/T ET Street Radial Pro is a track use only tire with an R2 compound. My dedicated track tire is an M/T Pro Bracket Radial 28.0/10.5/R15 with X5 compound, it's cooler running for a longer life span, very consistent and hooks great.

The 275 Pro is as wide as the 295 but is definitely not a street tire.
How much power are you trying to hook?
I’d personally look at M&H and start with 325/50/15s.
If this is for the track, forget the radial and go bias ply.
If this is for the street, then I love DRs, but MTs are not my choice unless it’s 4-digit power.

Looks killer man!
I’ll tell you the Strange 9” conversion was a true bolt in, I was impressed.
Also, do they sell tint for that front orange side marker?
Great looking Shelby?

Just a subtle suggestion :)
It was 37 this morning, I can’t wait to enjoy the new 9” on the street. Hopefully next weekend it’s back out on the road.

I’m only trying to hook 600-650whp but I’m on stock suspension. I’d love to run bias ply at the track and radials on the street but I’m not going to buy another set of welds to swap them for one or the other and I’m not swapping tires out all the time on these wheels so I guess I’m going to have to go with radials. The car won’t be driven in the rain or snow so it really doesn’t matter about how they handle weather. I may drive the car a couple hours away to a car meet or race or whatever and don’t want to be swaying all over the road on bias plys lol. If the 275 pro is as wide as the 295 ss I may go that route if it can handle dry street conditions. The 325 M&H would surely rub something under there right? That’s a fat tire! Lol

No, on rubbing with the M&H, I ran 325/40/18 on 18x10.5 Darkstars and they just bolted on.
As far as your plan to have one set of wheels/tires, it sounds good, but you’re going to break parts, cause gear whine, and have more frustration/less performance. It’s just the nature of the beast with a 4000# RWD big torque stick car.

I run a MT 28” front runner with 275 Pro’s out back. I like the large fronts as they fill the wheel well nicely.
