How far have you traveled for a car?

FL to NY for my 04 cobra, we flew into JFK airport and I took it from there. Would have been 1,200 miles back to FL, but my wife and I had set it up to drive to Virginia, and put the car on the auto train. The train let us off in Sanford FL and we drove home from there. Total mileage we put on the car was about 500. The car only had 3,600 miles on it so I did this to keep mileage down and turned out to be one of the best trips ever. We had a blast. My last road trip for a car, was for my son, he was 15, at the time which was 13yrs ago wow does time fly. I found a 93LX hatch on ebay in Kentucky, advertised to have 75,000 miles on it and we agreed on $3,500. This was a 900 mile trip back home. The night before I was set to fly out I call the guy to make sure everything is set to go. He says yes but the heater core is leaking and my father is in the process of putting a new one in. He says it will be ready to go when you get here. The next day I fly in the guy pulls up just as I walk outside of the airport, and the car, was not as described. The whole lip on the back of the hatch was full of Bondo, the title said the car has 175,000 not 75,000 and the whole dash was out no electronics. No gauges, didn't know if I had oil pressure, no gas gauge, temp or volts. I'm saying to myself what a mistake never again and I have a 900 mile trip back home. I already paid airfare and didn't want to disappoint my son he was so excited for his first car. I got the guy to take another $1,000 off the price. We had to got to a parking lot and pull the dash for the gauges, turned out they never plugged the harness back in after doing the heater core. So that at least gave me gauges for the trip home. Now mind you the guy drives the car, to the airport, with no gauges, and was never going to mention it. I caught it just as I was about to pull out I look at the fuel gauge and it's on E. That took another 2hrs to fix and now the thought of driving home with a 175,000 miles on this car sight unseen. Well the trip home went well, except for my nerves, constantly watching the gauges not knowing if it's going to overheat, is the belt going to last and so on. Just very unsettled. The only thing I noticed on the trip home was one of the rear axle seals was starting to leak. All in all it turned out to be a great car. We replaced the hatch had it painted and he kept it for many years. If you ask me, would I ever do it again with an older car, my answer is NEVER. I'll never forget this trip or the experience. GL which ever way you decide to go should you purchase this car. I hope it all works out for you.

I found my 1993 Cobra on the internet. It was just outside L.A. in Riverside. I had never been to California at that point in time and love road trips, so I hooked up a car trailer to my truck and drove straight through, besides a couple hours nap at a rest stop. I arrived, loaded the car and drove straight back. I saw some cool shit on the way and on the way back, which my GPS took me just outside San Diego. It was a great trip despite an unfortunate incident with the trailer.

Edit: the drive was 22 hours and change, one way

Twice.
Live near Detroit. Flew out to Phoenix to buy Excursion. Drove it back 2400 miles. Picked up a roller LX hatch on the way. Had a blast, fell in love with American Southwest.
2nd time, flew to Vegas, bought a taurus, drove 2400 miles back. Enjoyed every mile, was really hanging it out there though, major mechanical problem would have stranded me. I did have a badass tool kit though. Would highly recommend it, since I live in the salt belt. Just make sure you are very versed in the vehicle you are buying.

I kind of like doing it lol. Make a little road trip/vacation. My farthest was about 14 hours one way. Just ask a LOT of questions before you travel that far. You don't want any surprises.

I've flown solo to and driven back a couple of cars (2 terminators, 1 MS6) with one way trips over 1,400/1,100/1,200 miles. Talk about a long couple of days. I would fly in and drive straight through only stopping for gas and food....my key to staying awake was eating whole sunflower seeds, it keeps your brain active.

Wow, some folks have put some miles on! My dad and I picked up my terminator in 2010. We’re located in Canada and picked it up in Spokane Washington, just over a 400 mile drive one way so wasn’t too bad.

Stop it....making me think twice on the truck I’m trying to buy and ship. It’s 1k miles north just across the border.

That is my best friends truck.... Located in Vancouver BC. I helped him find it and it is every bit as mint as the ad reflects

In March ‘02, I was stationed in LaMaddalena, Italy which is a large island off the western coast of the “boot”. I opted for a factory delivery of my E46 M3. We took a rented Volvo on an overnight ferry to northern Italy, then drove to Munich. It was about 400 miles if memory serves, but it was a great trip for my me, my wife and young daughters. I broke that BMW in right on the Autobahn and have great memories from the trip.

After looking on and off for three years in two states I found my Terminator in my zip code.

I did drive 260 miles one way to buy a pristine Foxbody a couple of years ago.

That was far enough.

1700 miles one way. I've done that twice. Drove straight through both times...26 hours. One was for my Terminator in Florida and the other was for a 95 F150 just a year and a half ago in Arizona.

1000 miles once for my 01 Cobra in Texas.
