When you guys get the inevitable first stone chip on the hood in the taped stripe area, what do you do? Anything? Can't really touch up vinyl, I think.

I felt the same way when I got my first chip on the passenger side A-Pillar.

Just chock it up as a enjoyable battle wound.

Or you can get the stripe replaced at least. Paint is a totally different story.

Stop tailgating and following so closely. You'll be amazed how much nicer and rock chip free the front of the car stays.

Got one in my white stripe, just below my hood vent. Already bought a new one from ford as the my local sign shop couldn't match the white. I'm getting it installed this week. It was like 65.00 for one of them, good thing I get a decent discount from Ford.

i got a nice stone chip on my stripe driving my car home from the dealer.....so its been there from day 1....just something you have to deal with

if you drive a few car lengths away and dont get near semi's your car will rarely get stone chips

Part of driving and enjoying the car.

I watched a rock on the highway "bounce" towards me, and then bang. It landed on the left side of the hood, but missed the stripe.

Nothing a little touch up paint can't hide.

Not sure how to "patch or touch up" a stripe. Sharpie, maybe touch up paint? I would just live with it. In five years or so, you will have to replace them due to wear and tear anyway.

When I had my 10 with matte black stripes a sharpie worked remarkably well for small chips.

^This! I stay way back in this car and have yet to get a single rock chip in 3250 miles. My 2008 Corvette had maybe 5 tiny ones in 35,000 miles and 2 or 3 of those were there when I bought the car with 6,500 miles on it. Now my wife's car on the other hand...it looks like it was sand blasted! And it's all because of tailgating trucks.

Well, not to try to argue with anyone here, but I live in Atlanta, where most average highway speeds are 75-85. I don't tailgate anyone and I stay away from the backs of trucks, particularly the big gravel carrying kind, but if I stay far away from the backs of other cars I will be in the right lane doing 55 all the time. No point in owning a 662 HP car if you can't stretch its legs once in a while.

I've had 3x vipers, 5x corvettes, 4x other sports cars and this GT500 since 1998, and they all get stone chips in the paint eventually. I have just never had vinyl stripes before. Car is black/matte black stripes. I will prolly use a sharpie and not worry about it.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

You don't have to stretch it legs with other cars around though. I love the right lane at 65mph... Set cruise and enjoy the ride.

To each their own, but that sounds boring to me. Sometimes you have to just go with the low in heavy traffic, but I've used cruise control a total of zero times in the 2000 miles I have driven this car

Agreed. I refrained from making any comments, but I too do not tailgate and have the common sense to stay away from big trucks. But eventually a rock will find you no matter how hard you try. Tailgating does increase the chances but is not the only reason why.

Sorry to beat a dead horse but just recently purchased a 2013 GT500 with 2,400 miles and the of course first day the lower bumper paint stripe in sonic blue had a chip flat out pissed me off. I work at a local dealer so went into parts not being very optimistic but to my surprise you can in fact order them individually and it was only $44.00 my cost for the passenger side bumper one so I ordered the driver side as well.
