High horsepower (let's say 700+) guys; do you ever regret it?

The only way I would daily drive an 800hp car, would be because I couldn’t afford to daily drive a 1600hp car!

Haha, nice! Overall I love it, I just don't like not being able to play around quite as easily on public roads.

I was poking fun ... OP is a good guy.

But on a serious note. Why are you not on a good rear tire? Quit kicking the can down the road and get that part of the equation fixed.

No. Just make sure you run a upgraded tire to get all power to stick. I run a 325 drag radial with upgraded axle shafts. Car is not daily driven by any means. Only see's good weather, so make sure you have a good solid daily driver if your going to take your fun ride to 700,800,900,1000 horsepower.

I didn't feel like spending the money for a radial (regardless of Nitto, MT, etc.) when the temps are still in the 40s and 50s. It just seems like wasted money to me. Now a little later this month or sometime in May, our weather should change for good. I mean heck, we were just getting snow late last week, which is rare in NC.

No issues at that level back when my cobra was 4.6/twin turbo, we'll see with this new setup though. The most fun car I have ever owned was my stock '06 Z06.

815whp and 3350lbs. Daily driving it since February with snow and rain. (Daily driver is broke so using the cobra.)

Pros: Wow. Fun. Feel younger, like taking a lot of driving time at night. Great for the mind.

Cons: went from 25mpg to 15mpg. God bless Trump. Gas is cheap and he’s responsible, I’m cool with it.

Cons: I should invest time/money into certifying a wholesale tire selling company so I can afford the rubber I’m using up

Anyways,

I want 1000whp (e85) and 3000lbs. Car feels slow, traps about 145 now. Been 141 and 143 without perfect runs.

Going to do a Holley dominator efi and swap in a 6r80. I love manual but I want an 8000rpm trans. The t56 and tr6060 both handle power but won’t shift well from my research.

There’s something to be said about being able to drive the shit out of a factory 700 hp car and not worry about warranty, etc. that being said, I’m totally sick of 4000+ lb cars with 800hp barely cracking 10’s.

That’s why I’m trading a hellcat charger for an rs3. I miss having a sub 3600lb car. Awd and a car that takes well to mods. Can’t wait to take delivery

Thinking about those - how do they behave in the rain?

Dumb question lolol just never driven one

Mine was amazing with Nitto Invos, drove it in all weather (Houston). Just watch out for hydroplaning like with any vehicle that comes from the factory with 325 mm rear tires haha.

I understand the OP’s perspective. I was in a similar position and then had to decide what to do about it.

I never liked the drag radial answer just because it limits where and when you can take the car out for longer trips in the event you get caught in the rain or you wanted to wring it out on a curvy road. I also had the backend kick out on me once going down the interstate at 75mph. That was enough for me to consider plan B. I have responsibilities like raising 3 kids that are significantly more important than living on the edge so to speak. I also am fortunate to have a very senior position within a very high profile company in my area. Showing up in the paper getting busted for speeding at triple digits would not be good for my career.

My plan B was to move to an AWD platform that was good from a dig, could roll out without having the backend switch lanes and having the best possible radar detector which helps but still doesn’t eliminate but reduces the risk of a speeding ticket.

I sold the Shelby and bought a new GTR and Uniden R3. I still am able to enjoy the thrill of speed but was significantly less risk. I do not regret making this move at all. Like many of us I still want more..so I am planning to go FBO w/E-85 in the next couple of months. Everybody’s situation is a bit different. I am sure I am not as skilled of a driver as many of the SVTP ballers on here. I can admit that and still have fun with my new set up. In the end I did would made me happy.

Don’t drive car in rain

Profit
Meh, drove in the rain on mine 4-5 times. Never intentional, but each time it was a 30-60 min drive home. Don't be dumb, and it's fine.

Had an RS3 at the track last night wrecking everyone. Running 10.8's, but had gutted the interior. Not mine, but dumb to me for a street car

Kiohtee we put a turbo controller on a buddies car that worked off of a (in his case) a button (for strip use) he would ride around on 15psi and with the button it went to 30+ this may be an alternative if your not set on getting tires quite yet. The box wasn't that expensive maybe 375 the good thing was once the BOV was set for a certain # the controller did the rest. we weren't using correctly but the way we needed it but none the less the controller could be turned down and up easily to drop boost and make it more street friendly
i put BOV and meant to put
waste gate sorry trying to do 3 things at once and screwed this one up

Since my car is a road racing track car I've been told by many that the 580rwhp is about the limit of how much I want to put down. The ability to go WOT out of a corner is more important. This means suspension/tire must match power. Right now it's dialed in with the stock tire size. Larger tires I might be able to get to 625.

1000hp+ and trying to pull 1g laterally in a 100mph turn doesn't smell like fun. For those of you that go straight...sure... but I'm willing to bet your too pussy to pull the wheel hard left while doing it lol
