Hello everyone!
New S197 owner here. I purchased a white 2013 GT with 19,000 miles last month. The car came with "full bolt ons" that were installed by the previous owner. I took the car to its first track run last night and blew the clutch upon launch. Now, my baby is sitting on jack stands in the garage. So, my question is, does anyone have any ideas in regards to the cost of a complete replacement by a dealership or certified shop? A good friend of mine has quoted me $500 in labor to do it, claiming it will take him 8 hours and he will do it in my garage. If I were to go this route, I would be purchasing an aftermarket performance clutch. Due to this experience, the though of daily driving this car has started to make me worry. I would like your thoughts, opinions, and experiences. I'm close to Columbus, Ohio. Thank you! Jared R.

Is your buddy a mechanic? Clutch jobs are straightforward, but if he’s not a mechanic it could be f***** up. Something to keep in mind.

Depending on OEM clutch vs aftermarket, prices can vary greatly.

Lol yeah have discussed that but he works 2 hours away and a tow that far? Ouch. I doubt my AAA would cover that much of a distance.

$500 plus parts is about what a performance shop would charge. So, comes down to whether your trust of this guy outweighs the fact he will be doing it without the benefit of a lift and any other tools he doesn't think to bring with him.

I paid $700 for an rx7 clutch to get done plus parts years ago. This time around I did it in my garage, after doing that myself, Id say $500 is a good deal. Would he charge you less if you help him do it?
