Probably going to ruffle some feathers, but was ford that cheap they couldn’t continue to use the Terminator rods or those from the ford GT when they knew people would be pushing these cars. Not a fan of crack powdered forging myself.

You must have very little knowledge then my friend. Gt500 make easy power to over 700 with rods not being a problem. Your weak link in the rod is reving too high 7k plus.

Would we all love a better rod from the ford gt sure. But we did end up with a stronger piston than the 03/04 cobra

As long as you keep RPM down with stock rods what can you push the stock LB to? I know Justin of Mod Motor Mustangs pushed his to 875 and kept the RPM down on his '13. Plus did mods for efficiency and ran on E all the time.

Looks like the video author is either trolling or is butthurt. Some good points in the video...lots of propaganda.

This is a good one... "Just make sure if you're buying a GT500 that you're not going to heavily modify it."

Rods are the weak link for sure, but its good enough for 90% of the power levels most people will run. GT500 did get a stronger piston than the Terminators, and they got even better for 2011-12.

But you are not wrong in being concerned. If you want to make big power, its definitely got to be one of of the major parts you upgrade.

What can the gt500 handle on stock internals?

Most accepted figure is 750ish rwhp safely. Keep revs under 6500 and as tvspower mention, run excellent quality fuel.

Upgrade the rotating assembly to fully forged, upgrade the timing system & OPGs and you could likely rev to 7500 (max) and hit 1K rwhp. Must have a bullet proof fuel system (return) and be on e85.

I bend a rod/broke and windowed my block with less than 750hp and it happened at 5200rpm.

Damn that sucks. I rev mine to 6k with 720rwhp on corn. I hope my block holds. Only abuse it on the weekends so hopefully that buys me some time lol

The same thing happened to me in a Gen 1 SHO ~20 years ago. Rod in cylinder No. 1 let go at about 5k rpm. Those motors were supposed to be rev-happy and invincible to over 8k rpm. Well, I had beat on it the night before. I learned that day that shit happens.
