I wanted to ask others what I should do. Long story short. Father left me a 16 ft aluminum flat bottom 4 row john boat. Youngest sister, without asking, let a local church borrow it for vacation bible school or such. She never got it back.

Fast forward. I have called and messaged several times over the last almost 2 years to get the boat back. All I am getting is. We can't find it. No one knows where it is. No one has seen it. We can't help you no further.

I have got this from the Pastor's wife every time I have called. They are really well known in our community. Both own businesses. Both have worked for the Board of Education. He is a PHD holder. She is a teacher. ETC, etc, etc.

I have exhausted trying to contact them to get the boat or get it replaced. What would you do? I am afraid local attorneys would side with them since they own the local Day Care in the city where most of our attorneys are. Last thing I did was sent her a message showing her a like style boat and the cost and asked her to go get it for me to replace the one that she "lost." I have had no response in the last few months from that conversation. Plus they avoid me and my wife out in public. Thanks everyone.

I mean, they borrowed a boat and didn't give it back.

They are essentially responsible.

Not sure how you'd prove it if it came to court.

check the lake they use for vacation bible school?

It sucks but I doubt you'll get anywhere with it. I'd say your sister owes you a boat

If your sister took the boat from you, she (if she is an adult) is responsible for the losses due to none return, so your action is against her. If she is a minor, different rules may apply.

She may wish to indemnify against them later, but right now she owes you a boat.

Im assuming it had to be registered? If so, report the boat as stolen as a start.

Kind of shitty that a so-called church is being as far removed from the golden rule as they could be regarding property they supposedly borrowed. This of course assumes the story your sister is telling you is the truth.

Now, is it entirely possible that your sister took it and sold it? Using the story that she lent it to the church as a cover?

not at my post...
Put add in local paper. With details. Maybe shame would make them realize you're serious about wanting the boat back?
I'd add, you need the boat so you can "teach a Man to fish".

That is the truth. I would have to pull my sister in to testify.

Did you report the boat as stolen and provide numbers/identifying marks to police?

Sent from my iPhone using svtperformance.com

Never got it registered after dad died. It was stored at our house.

They did not use a lake but actually used it inside the church. Yes I have talked to her about that too. No answer.

What is the estimated value of this boat?

$1,300.00 for a no name brand and up to $3,500.00 for a brand name boat. Plus taxes.

No we had not got around registering it yet.

The church admitted to using the boat but they have no idea what happened to it after they used it inside the church for the week. They knew it was there but they have no idea who took it or where it went to or when it happened. They interviewed all the employees and people helping and no one recalls what happened to it. It just up and disappeared. That is the crazy thing, a 16 ft boat just does not disappear.

report it to the cops as stolen, sue the church, file a claim with judge judy but you have to prove the brand if you want more than the no name brand cost
