I'm officially making the move to ditch DirecTV.

Living in the country prevents me from doing such a thing.

I live in the sticks and am limited to 4mbps download speed.. no issues with buffering at all.. so you guys would most likely be fine (thats with 2 TV's streaming at all times and a gaming desktop going along with 2 cell phones.)

Been very close to doing this, but never have. The last time I got close, I discovered that there are virtually no streaming services that stream at 1080p, much less 4K. The best you'll do is probably 720p.

So, if you have a fancy TV, it's basically useless with streaming services.

I dumped DirectTV too. I only have Comcast Internet and Netflix, we have 3 Rokos. Total cost for is $90.00 which too high. I wish i change internet providers for non -DSL internet. I am stuck with Comcast cable.

I dumped Cable for everything but internet. So Im at $44 for internet, bought a Roku, and subscribe to Philo for $17 which gives me 44 channels. The only one that matters is Hallmark for the wife.

I haven’t turned on a TV in two years. You all and my other chums on some other car/gun/political forums are much more entertaining.
Never heard of Philo......

That's not true. Hulu streams 1080P or 720P based on your available download bandwidth. Mine should be fine (340Mbps) but I can upgrade to "Up To 1gb" if I need to. 4K is another animal. There is limited 4K content available, but it's growing. 4K content is available from Netflix and Amazon Prime, just to name two. 4K movies are available, of course, on 4K Ultra HD BluRays, which was the main reason why I bought my LG 4K Ultra HD TV. So if you want HD @ 1080P and some 4K content, streaming options are there IF you have sufficient download speeds.

Question. Does Roku have DVR capability (cloud or USB port?)? I know Amazon's product does. We will definitely need the ability to record shows/games that we'd otherwise miss if we're not home.

Neither had I. I started this same discussion on another forum last year and got all these same suggestions, except for this one guy who was apparently in the business. I was looking specifically for the Hallmark channel for my wife. It's the only reason the TV ever gets turned on, and Philo has it, plus a bunch of other recognized channels, and for only $17 a month. Thus far it seems to be a quality offering. No complaints at all. I felt like I had been paying $100 for cable to just get Hallmark and now pay $17.

I have Roku in some rooms and I have 4K Fire Sticks in the other and use my cell phone as remotes. I have never ever had a problem with any of the three or four firesticks that I have but I have only had them for a few years all on wifi. I actually have WAY more problems with my Roku than with fire sticks and the Roku is the newest of the bunch.

I cut the cord a couple of years ago and have been using the Playstation Vue service. My wife and kids don't notice it being different than the DirecTv days. I've also been watching a lot more youtube content lately and the quality of some of them is really good.

I had Direct TV once for about 8 months. That was enough for me. Went back to cable. Been happy ever since.

We used Direct TV Now. Worked great.

Realized with the cost of internet, DTV Now, and the other shiz, it was just as expensive. So we went to a Comcast plan for 140 bucks a month and it's got err thang.

The minute the 2 year contract runs out though and the price tries to go up, daddy will be going back to plain old internet and whatever. I'm not paying the non-contractual price.

We have the commercial free Hulu. It's worth the extra $. With any of the Hulu services I don't see the need for a DVR if it's major network content. They usually have it available the next day. We were DVRing everything on DTV or cable just to watch it the next day or later. I was like why? Let's just get Hulu.

Netflix is a must also IMO. Lots of great original content.

Same here. Have DirectTV Now, lowest tier package, it's decent.

Using ATT for internet, and they supposedly gave us unlimited internet for having Directv now.

No complaints so far, other than the coming rate hike for DTVnow.

As a tech guy myself I would have cut the cord a long time ago if it was only me. But my wife just can't live without surfing channels and "The Real Housewives" lol!. It is nice to sometimes just flip the channels until you get to a cool movie, forensic files etc. We have Netflix and Amazon Prime also. I use Netflix more these days with all the good shows. Paying around $150 per month for TV. The DVR feature is very nice. So I don't see us cutting the cord. I wish they had an option for movies and entertainment only. I don't like that I am supporting CNN or all the other fake MSM stations even though I never flip to their channels.

I called directv to cancel it and they lowered my bill so much I kept it.

I think it’s under $40 a month with tree drvs but no movie channels but I have a fire stick for that.
Yeah for how long? They will jack it up again. I contacted ATT to get a lower price and when that did not work said I was going to cancel. The guy called my bluff and said thank you for being a customer have a great day lol! In the past I was able to get it down but I think I have spoiled the bastards by paying diligently the past few years without negotiating. I'll see if I can get a better deal from Xfinity but my wife really likes the Uverse interface. Xfinity's guide fonts are too small and less legible.
