Hey fellas,

I’m new to the GT500 world and I have a lot to learn about them. I’ve had Fox bodies, 01 cobra I built and a 04 cobra that I built from stock to turbo/auto that made 797/700. But I don’t know the best things to get for this car because I never really thought I’d own one lol. I have a few questions....

1: I need a tuner. I’m assuming SCT is still the way to go. That’s what I’ve always ran. Do y’all think I should get the X4?

2:I need some skinny’s and slicks. I want weld bead lock rears and I have no clue what bs and size I need to fit over the brembos. I’m assuming a 18” front and a 17” rear but I’m completely lost on what width and bs. Also pad height..... Lost on that too

I plan to throw a mgw in here with weld wheels on good radials and see what I can get time wise then start down the ugly road of modding the car. I don’t plan to pulley the stock blower, I’ll probably just jump straight to a VMP or Whipple. I’m a turbo guy so that’s an option also.If anyone here could be kind enough to lead a noob down the right path it would be much appreciated lol

Thanks In advance!
Jay

I just went down this road myself on my stock 2013 GT500. I wanted to open it up on the stock blower and also be able to hear that blower scream! Stock it was just too quiet and I could only hear it in the upper rpms. I ended up going with the JLT 123mm intake, VMP 67mm throttle body, BPS throttle body elbow, 2.4 pulley, and a tune from Lund on the Ngauge tuner. The car drives amazing with these mods. Blower sounds fantastic and idle/drive-ability of the the 67mm TB is just like stock. Couldn't be happier. If I were you, I would do the throttle body, intake, and tuner as your first mods. Those will all transfer over to a VMP blower should you go that route and will give you a nice boost in the meantime.

For your tuner, you either want to go with the usual SCT or the HPT Ngauge. I went with the Ngauge because I liked the ability to select different gauges to display, it mounts really nice in the car, and it is faster to datalog/load tunes in the car. Supposedly the Ngauge can do more tune wise on these cars vs the SCT but I am not sure exactly what that additional capability is.

As far as skinnies and slicks, I will let someone else chime in on that. I'd be interested to know myself!

I appreciate the advice 95r. I’ll look into the ngauge for sure. If it makes it easier to datalog then that means a lot for me. I have a x4 on my 16 f350 and honestly it seems to be about 10 years out dated as far as how it operates and such. It feels like I have a 1991 game boy hooked to my truck lol

If you are spending the money on beadlocked rears, do the rear 15" conversion and grab 15x10's. Swap with someone with boot from them. Trust me, 17's only get you so far.

I may do that. I know the 17’s will only get me so far but haven’t really looked into what it takes to get a 15 on here. I figured it would be a pita and I kinda just planned to put some good control arms on and make due with the 17’s. I’m not really trying to run anything crazy, maybe get it to 750-800 someday and run high 9’s or low 10’s at full weight. I think that’ll be very doable on a 17 but I could be wrong, like I said I’m new to these cars.

Pull axles, remove backing plates. Install GT/V6/Boss backing plates, install axles, and refill diff fluid. Axles are C-Clip axles. If you purchased parts, $100ish for the backing plates and $100ish for the rotors. I want 15's for my Z but that is $1,499 then wheels/tires lol.
