97-98 Cobras in the 50-75k mile range are great drivers in the current market if you ask me. These are $7,500 - $10,000 if they have been well maintained and in good to excellent shape.

***No Mach460 is suspect unless there is a clear after market stereo in this car. Check the VIN for sure.

You can read lots about these cars here, but long story short manage your expectations. All stock you definitely need to wake these cars up a bit, so I would hunt for one that has had gears, exhaust, cold air and shifter done at the very minimum. Be careful when considering cars that have had power adders. No forged internals (but a super stout block), so many have been blown up with even seemingly mild Vortech/Procharger setups. The kits that are 20+ years old at this point may be tired.

Careful at the bottom of the 96-98 cobra market. Many problem cars at this point that have been badly abused.

Overall I have enjoyed my low mile example tremendously for the past 17 years. Lots of smiles per gallon here in a limited production model era for SVT that does not get enough love outside of the core SVT crowd.

Thanks for your input. Is there a number or letter in the vin to tell if its a true cobra? Or maybe something on the door hinge that shows it? Ya the mach stereo has me wondering but it did have a aftermath radio put in. But why take them all out. He didnt say much when i asked Thanks

Easy way to decode the VIN on these cars.

1FALP46 = Cobra Convertible
1FAFP47 = Cobra Hardtop

The rest of the number is going to give you information on color, sequence, etc.

Are you looking at a bright atlantic blue car on Craigslist? I believe a member went out and looked at it and posted that it was much rougher than expected in person. See thread below:

I might consider selling my 69,000 mile black on black 97 Cobra in Michigan.

Main points- tubular k member, caster camber plates, coil overs on the front and H&R supersports in the rear, slotted and cross drilled rotors, BBK long tubes, h-pipe, Flowmaster cat back, 03 Cobra 6 Speed with new Spec Clutch and fidanza flywheel, mgw shifter, cold air kit, 4.56 gear, new smoked headlights, really nice interior and paint shines.

PM me if interested.

They made a few cloth and non Mach 460 systems which saved about $2000 on the sticker. So they were out there but very few, like my '98 cloth model. I did it to save on price when I orderd. Then 8 yrs later put way too much into a system lol
