More good stuff, Weather Man. I met Warren at the Cajun Nationals when he was driving the Hurst Olds (and Glidden had the Thunderbird IIRC). Cool guy. I think they were running 7.77’s which seemed crazy fast for carbureted gasoline.

Look up the mopar missile on a google search. They were using a lot of titanium and magnesium in the car. I think the same car or one of them was so light two guys could pick up the chassis with the suspension attached. Craziness. I remember some ex NASA guys being involved.
I use to work at a auto body shop through high school and the shop owner was a big time pro stock racer. Even had Jerry Eckman race his pro stock firebird in Norwalk one time. I got to go with him on a bunch of the races and got to meet some really awesome people! He always had a bunch of cool stories and neat stuff to talk about.

I had a 3 bbl Holley, 950cfm if I remember correctly.
I do! I remember it well. Almost put one on my 1971 Duster 340. It was the rage when it first came out. Then the interest shifted to the Holley 4-barrel double-pumper. I had both a 650cfm and 750cfm on my Duster during the time I owned it.

How was your fuel mileage with your 3-barrel? The gear drive and dual squirter set-ups were notorious for killing fuel mileage.

I was using it on a high compression, roller cammed 440 in my race car so the mileage wasn't very good.... Lol

Ah, the days of cheap gas! My cousin used to own a '68 Corvette 427 tri-power. Beast. I remember that year going for a ride with him in Hawthorne, CA and literally watching the gas tank needle move as we drove. I swear he was only getting about 5 MPG. I don't know if it was stock because he drag raced it at an LA area track. But when you're paying only 20 cents a gallon, no big deal.
