I got hit in the mouth with a golf club when I was in 4th grade. Knocked out three teeth and had a concussion to boot. My mom said it changed me. When I asked her why she said this: It made you self-conscious, not only about how your mouth looked, but your body image in general. I think you became less out-going, less talkative. You saw first-hand how people's actions are unpredictable, so you were not very trusting. You displayed feelings of pessimism, maybe even a bit of paranoia, and started being sarcastic. You no longer had the self-confidence that you previously had: not socially nor scholastically.

I snapped my left arm just above my elbow playing “Olympics” and jumping off the tire swing.

Got caught and came down with my arm locked straight to catch my fall. Snap.. stood up and said, oh, I think I broke my arm.

Massive knot pressing out against my skin, and anytime I stopped propping my arm up with my right hand, my broken arm started rotating itself, elbow up.

Whenever it was time to pull the pins the doctor used pliers and just pulled. I could feel a cold sensation across my elbow bones.

I know the feeling. Knocked my two front teeth out at 14 and tye dentist just glued them back on because I was going to need braces before they permanently fixed them. Got braces at 17 and had them until just before 21 where I ginally got them off and got new front teeth, but the whole time through high school I was self concious of it and some friends would make fun of the visible cracks in my teeth. It honestly probably ruined my entire teen experience because I was so self conscious of it. Im known for my smile but I never really smiled and I stayed pretty reserved until I was 21 and could get it all fixed. I have about $40k in dental work now and it made a world of difference to my self confidence.

I'm not a perpetual smiler either. I don't walk around with a retarded leer like many do. If something is amusing I'll grin but that's the only time.

Damnnnn, that's a crazy injury. How did it happen?

I have a similar injury on my left arm almost in the same spot. I was about 10 or 12 years old myself when I fell off a fence that I was walking along the top of. The bottom part was up, so the barbs were almost like a "w" shape. Ripped my arm as I fell to my feet. I didn't know anything happened till I looked at my arm. My brother immediately started panicking like crazy. My mom almost passed out when I showed her my arm and all the blood. It was pretty nasty. I could see flesh. lol
Needed 20 stitches outside and 8 stitches inside. I had to have a surgeon sew up the wound, the ER doctor couldn't do it.
What a scary and painful day that was. I'll never forget it.
Very similar circumstances we were in. I was climbing a swingset when I slipped and fell. On the way down, the nail caught at the V and ripped my arm open. No pain and didn't realize anything had happened until 5 or so seconds had passed and my arm felt hot.

Screamed bloody murder to the house and my dad started to ask if I was stung by a bee until he saw it. Immediately yelled for my mom to call 911.

They put the 26 stitches internal and stapled the outside. Still a very impressive scar.

Did you ever meet your donor? I ask because if I was in a similar situation I would want to know who brought me into this world.

It really doesn’t matter who brought you into the world, it matters who your parents were and the ones that raised you. When someone gives up a child, they aren’t your parent anymore.

I’ve had an amazing life due to my parents raising me and giving me a wonderful childhood. I have never wondered about who my “real mom and dad” are. Most people who weren’t adopted tend to ask that question. It makes me laugh, and they get uncomfortable when they ask if I know who my real mom and dad are, and I reply with “yes, I know who my real mom and dad is, they raised me.”

Maybe it's late, maybe I'm confused, maybe I'm drunk, but I don't understand why you don't want to know who your donor was because of medical reasons.

I said I want to know for medical reasons.... you must be drunk. Lol

Your response made me realize that there is so much in this world I am unaware of. I am glad things worked out for you. I don't have kids of my own but I work in a profession where I have to be a father.

That's precisely why my sister and husband decided not to adopt a gal from China. My sis cannot have children due to numerous medical reasons so they looked into adopting a child from China. But when they sat down and did critical analysis they realized they had no way of knowing what the kid's medical history was.

My brother and his wife adopted a baby girl in China about 20 years ago and she turned into a completely american girl. beautyful, talented, intitled, self absorbed, and conceited.
