Traction Control kicking on in 5th and 6th gear

Hi all,

My car sat for about 1 - 2 years, and I have recently started driving it again but have a new issue. When I am driving on the highway going 60-70mph and I "punch the gas" slightly to pass a car in 5th or 6th gear the traction control kicks on. Any ideas where to start looking? How does the traction control work?

I generally just turn the traction control off, however have to remember to do that every time I drive the car which is pretty annoying.

I have mine set to be turned off in my tune. Much better that way.

And in for results, I'm not sure how it works and have never looked into it. I suspect is uses data from the wheel speed sensors front vs. rear.

I’d check out and clean the toner rings on the rear end. They’re located on the rear end where the axles go into the differential. They could be dirty causing weird stuff to happen. I also have it turned off in the tune as well. Never have to worry if it’s on or off cuz I know it’s off.

Dangerous move to floor it in 5th and 6th if you have factory pistons. The car accelerates fine 1st through 4th? And if its been sitting for 2 years make sure you run that old gas out before going wot, that could be the issue. These engines are expensive when they go boom so be careful.

He’s got some serious power if he’s actually breaking traction in 6th gear. I think the cars having problems that need correcting is how I took his post.

True, I shouldn't assume he's running a stock motor with traction control issues in od. Could be some cruddy tone rings too so hopefully is something easy like that.

That’s exactly where I’d start troubleshooting.

Are your rear tires taller than what came from the factory?
